Day one

so I have been on pretty much anything that I can find pill wise for about 2 yrs now. I have tried to quit and tried to quit but nothing has seemed to work. I feel like I can do this this time and stay clean for the rest of my life. My body most definitely doesn't want to do crap but just sit around. Day one *****!! if anyone has any suggestions on what to do that would be very helpful

Hi  well recovery can take some time a lot has to do with how long you been on it at what dose and you age all factors in  just know once you do come around it is so so worth it there are a few things that help im a big one on ''whey protein shakes'' it is 17 bucks at walmart for a 2lb can  the chocolate flavor is good just mix 1 scoop with a glass of milk it has the aminos for your brain and the raw protein for energy also l/tryozine is good for energy b12 you got to put the full in to over come this none is a quick cure but all will help I wish there where a ezer or softer way but there is not  you know the pills are just a symptom of addiction this will not be over just because you detox you have to treat the addict or more then likely you will be right back to square one I have been on this forum since sept of 09 and have seen it over and over again those that use aftercare get clean and stay clean those that dont  well it is a crap shoot I would lye if I said no one has done it but I also believe that they will go threw life with addictive behavior and that is fact that in itself can make life on lifes terms very difficult aftercare is not a option if you dont want to do this again it is a critical part of staying clean the detox is the ez part it takes work to stay clean it is up to you first we got to get you detoxed lets focus on that I will look for you tomorrow I got to crash I got a M R I at 7 am  good luck to you....Gnarly

Thank u gnarly. I just have to stay positive that I can do it this time! I am movin to a totally diffrent state on to a farm that is 68 miles from town, so that will be the good thing for me! I will be busy 24-7 and not even think about opiates. All I have to do is get through this withdrawl. I know that everyone says that u will feel better in a week, is that true? I can't do the sluggish, want to sit on the couch because my body aches like hell thing. That is what make me always go get more

The L/tyrozine works you just have to watch not to over do it   if you do it will give you anxiety  right now you need to rap your head around this  ..''you just got to be ok without being ok for a wile this to shale pass'' pick up a case of gatoraid and force the fluids  it is very ez to dehydrate wile doing this so keep a bottle in your hand   a hot soak goes a long way in getting rid of the symptoms  pick up some movies to watch at night most people do not sleep this is 1/3 phyical and 2/3 mental so be ready to fight it out on both fronts  as for leaving town that is a quick fix but as addicts you can drop me any where and I will find it your still going there with the addict alive and well inside you you need to treat the addict  for me N/A works if your honest with yourself and work the program it can fix the train reck your life has become google Na meeting in your area will talk more about that latter lets get you threw the detox  keep posting for support we all want to see you make it..................Gnarly

I don't know much about the amino acids...I do know they say it helps a lot for folks who have been on subs or methadone.  The person to really ask about that is Gnarly if he happens to be around.  I was also told to tell people to check with their doctor before they go on it because of possible side effects with other medications.

K just looked looks like I have just b 6 so I will have to get some of that. Do you know if the l-tyrosine works at all for anything? I don't have depression or anything because I am already on viybrid for that

I think it comes in one strength...but the pills don't work nearly as well...if you can't do the injection get the sublingual which just goes under your tongue.  It works much better than the pills, not quite as good as the injection.  If you have to do the pill form just follow the instructions on the label...I've only seen it in one strength....

If you have no choice but to do the pills add the Super B Complex to it.  Perhaps the combination of the 2 will work good...can't swear to it though.

Try that B-12 hun....it really, really helps me and others that have followed the suggestion say the same.  Those who have had to do the sublingual B-12 say that they take it twice a day for it to be most effective though :-)

Thank u so much. I have tried this withdrawing stuff a couple times, by the fourth day I was over the withdrawls and looking and finding. This time I want to do it beofre I make a life changing move and have to do it there. I know that taking 1/4 of a sub will set me back but I can't do the no energy thing with kids.

NOOOO No hate....only love.  Focus on positive feelings, love for yourself, pets, family whatever....makes the mental part of the detox a little better to handle if you focus on what is good in your life and the things that are going to change for the better.

The move will definitely help if it is going to get you away from people who can harm your sobriety....that's something you can do when you start going a little nuts on the detox....do a little packing....you won't feel like it but staying busy really, really helps :-)

Oops found a mistake.  On the vitamins it was meant to say you will save 50% or more at Walmart versus Walgreens :-)

Here is a list of different items and things you can do to help with WD symptoms.  Please note this is a rough draft that DominoSarah and I are working on....more will be added on the subject of exercise, etc and then the whole thing in its entirety will be posted on-site so anyone who is new to detox can access it easily.  It is a bit long but we covered just about everything we could think of.  Hope it helps!

Withdrawal Symptom Relief:

****PLEASE NOTE:  Before using any of the vitamins, medications or supplements mentioned in this list please consult with your doctor.  We are not doctors and do not know what medications you are taking, it is important that you make sure that there will not be any adverse effects to using even something that seems as benign as a multi-vitamin****

First, use the Search MedHelp and search for the Thomas Recipe.

Restless Leg Syndrome:  Hylands Restless Leg Tablets (make sure it is the kind with Quinine in it)
or
Tonic Water (Schweppes is a good one) that also has quinine in it, sip on it until bedtime.  Add something to it if you don't like the taste.  I used sugar-free Crystal Light Tangerine flavor in mine.
Orthopedic socks, the tight ones for the lower legs
Ace bandages for the upper legs and arms, wrap tightly or use towels wrapped tightly
Before wrapping everything up rub some Ben Gay or Tiger Balm into the skin
or
       Heating Pads

Achy Legs:  So your legs aren't going a mile a minute but they are still achy and a little bit restless...use the ace bandages on them, have your dog lie on your legs or even your kitty cat stretching out...just something a bit heavy.

Big bag of Epsom Salts:  A good 15 to 20 minute soak in a really hot bath with salts in it will relieve a lot of your symptoms like anxiety for a while in addition to helping get toxins out of your skin.  Take as many per day as needed, definitely take one before you wrap up for RLS for the night.

Water, Lifewater with Electrolytes, Gatorade, anything to make sure you don't get dehydrated because that will make your symptoms worse.  If you have a juicer fresh juice would be terrific as long as your tummy can handle it.  Pedialyte can be made into popsicles...maybe not quite the same as the name brand but healthy and will feel good on your throat while giving you those great electrolytes!  Because detoxing means you will be sweating out a lot of the toxins this means you will be sweating out all of your fluids...so drink a ton of liquids...at least double to triple what you normally do.

Protein shakes, bananas, toast, rice, applesauce, pudding snacks...whatever your tummy can handle.  We never want to eat but the same thing goes here...if you don't eat a little bit your symptoms will be worse.

Sleep and Anxiety:  Chamomile Tea, Melatonin, Sundown Super Melatonin (has Valerian, Passion Flower and other items good for sleep and anxiety).  You can go the Valium route IF your doctor prescribes and you would only want to use it for maybe 7 days because you don't want to wind up addicted to benzo's.

Vitamins:  Cal-Mag-Zinc 3in1, Good Multi-Vitamin, Super B Complex, Amino Acids like L-Lysine, B-12 injection or sublingual (this is for after the insomnia part of WD is over) for energy.  Try to get these items at Walmart...you will save at least 50% over a drugstore like Walmart.

Bathroom Issues:  Immodium....you don't want to stop things up completely because this is part of your system voiding the toxins so please follow instructions on the package.

Tummy Issues:  Zantac or any OTC tummy product.  You can also talk to your doctor about Zofran if it is really bad.

Dark Chocolate:  Chocolate effects the pleasure center which opiates also does.  Dark chocolate is best because it helps with cravings AND it is considered to be healthier.

Clonidine if your doctor will prescribe it.  It is a high blood pressure medication so you need to talk to your doctor first.  It is also used for opiate, nicotine and alcohol withdrawals.  It does help reduce the symptoms quite a bit.  One of the main benefits is it helps with cravings.  It is only used for 7 to 10 days otherwise you would have to taper off of it (like most medications of this sort).

A local couple who provide fresh raw honey swear by bee pollen sprinkled on cereal, salads, vegies...pretty much whatever you want to put it on will help.

Sunshine and Exercise:  Even though you won't feel like it getting outside for a short walk, soaking up some sunshine, feeling the breeze on your face.  Light exercise will be very beneficial.

I made it to day 4 and then broke down and got a script for Xanax and Lexapro from my general practitioner (both meds I have taken in the past). The xanax helped immensely with my stomach and heart palpitations and it allowed me to get 5 hrs straight of sleep two nights in a row. Made all the difference in the world. As for the Lexapro I figured it would help with the depression which I'm prone to anyway.

Oh! If you have a bath tub, I recommend a very hot soak if your lower back starts hurting, it kills the pain instantly, if only temporary, I'd recommend as healthy a diet as possible, and rest. (speaking about if/when you go into withdraw.)

Hey,  I just started posting here yesterday, but my biggest recommendation is to change your number, and stop associating with the dealers, your "friends" who are only getting high to veg out, like mine, and get away from it all, if you're stuck in the surroundings, its about as easy to quit as it is to see a pig with wings.  I don't mean to sound crude, but I have been doing pills for 4 years every day just for the high, and it only gets worse.  As the people who spoke on my thread recommended, get far away from every causation of you being able to get them, focus on your goals in life, and definitely get checked for any damage you might have done to your body.  I'm no saint, I'm still fighting my demons, this is 1 week clean for me and I'm still withdrawing, but it's not as bad as the 3rd or 4th day. Clear those days, and keep away from the dealers, and you may be alright.
