Flexiril

I recently have been perscribed  Flexiril 10 mg bid prn along with Nuerontin 300mg TID I try not to use the flexiril unless the muscle spasms are to unbarable however After using it for just over a month now, if I do not take a dose of the flexiril at bedtime I will not be able to sleep, not because of muscle spasms but rather restlessness and my mind not wanting to relax. Is it possible to become dependant on this drug and is there something else that will give the same results but not lead to dependance?

I have severe scoliosis which has thinned three disk to the point that nerve damage has become to cause chronic pain and muscle spasms and twitching

I have finally weened myself off the flexiril and sleep has become easier without them. Though the muscle spasms are hrrendous at times I did not like the feeling of not being able to sleep without taking one. Seeing my Doctor this week on an alternative.

Flexeril is a muscle relaxer and it is possible to become dependent on them. They aren't known to be highly addictive but anything is possible if taken for an extended period of time.

When you weren't able to sleep did you also not take your dose of neurontin? I was prescribed neurontin for sciatic pain and I could see where missing a dose of it could also keep one from falling asleep.

I agree with the above member in that you should get in and talk to your doctor and figure out a plan. There may be something else out there that may work.

Congrats on recognizing a problem before it got too serious. That's great!

I would recommend you speak with your doctor about this since you have some serious health issues, be honest with your doctor that you find you cannot sleep now without the medication and are concerned.  long term use WILL lead to dependence thats a fact but you've said you are using it not for spasms bur for a restless mind that won't relax - that is a change in the way you previously took it - PLEASE listen to me address it now that you have recognized it or pay the piper later - the choice is yours.  Hope you get some good guidance.
