Another Methadone Question?

Well friends, I started reaching out to everyone on this forum when I was at 60mgs of methadone, as of X-Mas eve, I went down another 4, so I am now at 27! & I couldnt be more proud of myself, because as we all know, so many people dont make it or dont have the tools to take them from A to B, & Im not implying that I,ve made it, because I still have a long way to go, because after my taper is done, I still have to work with a new me, a clean me. Ok, heres my question, Im aware that anyone at anytime, can stop taking methadone, what do you consider the right dosage to go off of methadone? I,ve heard people say they have gone off at 80 & just felt like they were gonna die, & others who went off at 30 & did,ok? I just dont know if I should stay on methadone till the very last milagram, or 10? And what is a low dose? So far during my taper I have just done great! I even do just fine 36 hours after my last dose, so would that indicate that maybe I,d be fine detoxing at 20? Or even now? Or should I stay with my slow taper & be done by March? Im just so confused!

Forgot to mention that I had 0, and I mean NO WITHDRAWL AFTER DOING THIS!  I hope you have the same luck.. It took discipline. But it was easy for me because I didnt like that drug. I cant taper with oxycodone. I take it all! GOOD LUCK

Glad to hear you are tapering and doing this.

I am addicted to pills.  My Drug of choice is oxycodone. But when i cant get it ANYTHING is what i take.

I got a bottle of 180 10mg methadone pills.  I was only taking at most up to around 4 or 5 pills a day(really didnt like the stuff) When it got closer to running out I used a taper method.

first 3 days 4 pills

next 3 days 3 1/2 pills

next 3 days 3 pills

next 3 days 2 1/2 pills

next 3 days 2 pills

next 3 days 1 1/2 pills

then for 7 days I took 1 pill per day

then for 5 days I took 1/2 per day

then for 3 days I took half of a half which would be 2.5mg

Then I had 2.5mg left so I took that on the very last moring to start my day. more of a mental thing at that point I think.  But it made me feel like:Im good for today:

Good luck with your tapering. GOD BLESS

my advice would be to do a slow taper to as low as you can go..even down to as low as 2.5 or even half of that...i have heard the lower the better. i currently have a friend who has tapered, he is down to 2.5 and even that reduction from 5 to 2.5 was hard for him...that is what i would do...but i am positive there will still be some suffering, just not as severe...the choice is yours to make hun.
and i would also follow goingtomakeit's advice...

I was at 82mg when I went to my Dr. He tapered me down 22mg the first two days then went down 10mg for 2 days then gradually tapered me down to 2mg for two days. Then I stopped November 20th completely.  This took 3 weeks.  It wasn't fun but, I am doing well.  Still not sleeping to well but I know that the really crappy feeling is gone. Even the first few days after 2mg's were a bit hard, but able to hang with it.
The dr split the pills at first to 3 x a day then 2 then 1 then 1/2 at night.  I also took alot of vitamins, still taking them. Bcomplex, C, E, zinc, magnesium, B6. Also something called L-tyroxsine that we got at a health food store, supposed to help with detoxing.
Good luck to you. It does get better.
