Did anyone else get the side effect of hearing loss from opiate use??? and does it come back after recovery and time, or is it just gone forever??

I was using huge amounts of vicodin and my hearing was enhanced while using.  Didn't have issue with loss of hearing......well, that I noticed anyway.

what?.....what did you ask? vicodin is the one that is most associated with hearing loss. but any drug that contains the hydro and large amts of APAP (norcos, loratab) have ability to cause inner ear damage. so far they consider this deafness "very rare"...but that could be because there is so little study done thus far that the doctors aren't making the connection. they think that it's because the meds damage the tiny hairs that line our ears...or possibly its as simple as the effect they have on our neurotransmitters...unfortunatley the most common treatment of opiate induced hearing loss is simply to stop the drug and wait.  not always that simple...but the doctors are trying, right? best of luck!

Rush Limbaugh lost his hearing and had a cochlear transplant because of his heavy Oxycontin use.  I think there are quite a few others but it is still rather rare.  Hope you will see a specialist and give him the truth; perhaps you can be helped.  Are you still using?  All the best.
