Beth, do not do a total with drawl without seeing a Dr. 1st. I was on 120mg of Morphine a day for 12 years and went cold turkey. Day 6 or 7 I was shaking and hurting so bad I went to the ER. As shot of Morphine stopped it right off. But, then they suggested I go home to finish it off myself. Don`t do that..! They have meds that can stop the symptoms and you will feel much better. Then you will be clean and can go from there. I know it is hard to do alone, but I have lived alone for 17 years and it can be done. Just don`t try to withdraw and not be under a Dr`s care.
When do you plan on starting your detox? Does your husband know? I understand the bad attitude from your husband. My husband also gives me a bad attitude. It really pisses me off.
So are you ready for the detox?? Have you checked out the Thomas Recipe and Amino Acid protocol (they are on the bottom of this page under Health Pages)?? Stock up on gatorade or other favorite liquids, some easy food to eat, a heating pad, Alteril (OTC sleep med), some good movies and books to pass the time (and stave off the cravings. Be sure to post when you need help and support. It makes all the difference. If you have questions about the Thomas or Amino pages post and we will be there.
It is true about the pain....the body wants the pills and will make you think you need it. You need to restart your body to see what you need.
Have you talked to your doctor about stopping??...They are usually glad that we are honest and will do what they can to help. There are non narcotic meds that help make withdrawal easier.
Good luck!!
You're not alone in dealing with chronic pain. There's a pain management forum here on MedHelp and you may find some help and support there. There are many ways to treat chronic pain and many without medications. Sometimes we have to sort of piece a bunch of stuff together to get some relief, but it can be done. And we often have to set a new "normal" for our pain thresholds. I've been battling chronic pain for many years. For some of it, I had figured out what works best for me with exercise and diet. For the nerve pain, though, it's been tough. At one point they had me so incredibly overmedicated and really, it still didn't help the pain. WIth the help of so many of this forum I was able to taper down (and it was hard) but I've managed to get to a place I'm comfortable with. The pain is still there but I'd rather have that and be present than to be in a haze with the pain slightly less.
Best of luck. I hope the climate change helps. It's something I'm considering myself.
Soory for the spelling this darn touch phone

Hey Beth, yea your going to have to stop completely in order to see what your true pain level is. There are a lot of people here who also have chronic pain and have been able to deal with it holistically.
You can do this girl! Sorry to hear about your husbands attitude but all you can fo is take care of your side of the street and hopefully in doing so your situation with him will improve.
One day at a time!
