Where in the world is Buprenorphine?

I need to find a clinic / doctor in Washington, DC that prescribes Buprenorphine.

Any ideas of where to look?

My recovering heroin addict / methadone "clinically annoyed" boyfriend wants to get regulated on it.  I've looked up a bunch of info and most of what I hear is positive.

All clinics are different.  The one I go to in Pinedale California has a very caring staff.  I give UA's ONLY once a month.  On bup you have to give UA's once a WEEK. bup is Very hard on the liver!!!!!  Trust me, bup will not be approved for some time, it makes some people very sick.  If you are on methadone and have to go on a vacation, you can go to any clinic in any city.  On bup, if you leave town, you are **** out of luck.  When will people realize that methadone is a prescription medication given by a doctor.  For all of you waiting for bup, dont hold your breath!!!!  Its not going to happen!!!!!  I am beginning to feel sorry for folks waiting to get on bup.  If it is so great, then why has it not been approved.  BTW. I wrote the President and let him know how sick I was on it, I was constipated, couldnt eat and just felt sick all day.  Methadone is a miricle drug, it has saved my life!!!!!!!  If I offended anyone, I am sorry, I am just being honest

I'm new to this forum and found the discussions interesting.  Unlike many other related forums, this one seems to have little flaming, which is a nice change.  I get methadone from my physician for "pain", since doctors aren't allowed to prescribe it specifically for "addiction".  Addiction IS pain however, so methadone can be prescribed to addicts for "pain" if a doctor is willing to do it. Methadone saved my life, but methadone CLINICS made my life a living hell for five years. I had my life ruined by clinics, and I watched others have their lives ruined - some people even died because of abuses by clinic staff.  The only way to put an end to clinics is by enlisting the help of our doctors.  After educating doctors about how horrible clinics are, they should be glad to treat patients with methadone if they're good doctors. Buprenorphine can also be prescribed for pain, but I haven't tried it myself.  From what I've gleaned from my research, buprenorphine is a drug more suited to detox than maintenance, but if someone wants to detox it might be a good drug to use.  The statement someone made about being on 30mg. or less of methadone before transferring to bupe' is a standard used by the government, but everyone is different.  I urge everyone who is forced to get their methadone from a clinic to educate their doctors and ask them to prescribe methadone for the pain they get from addiction. The authorities try to stigmatize addiction patients, but we should be treated the same as pain patients - many pain patints are addicted too!!

I havent been here for awhile, because I had my own healing to do.  I want to say that I know about both Bup and methadone.  I was on Bup for awhile, and it made me real sick!!!  I couldnt go to the bathroom, and was nauseated all of the time.  I got so sick that I was scared enough to walk off at 18mg.  The highest dose being 24mg.  Bup does come in pill form, it has naltraxon in it, I was on a Government study and believe me when I tell you that ths medication will not be passed anytime soon.  Too many people are sick and tired of all the blood tests etc.  And just being sick.  Whoever said that kicking Bup is nothing like methadone, think again!!!!!!!!!!!  I went through withdrawls so bad, I was shooting dope just not to be sick.  The bup WD doesnt happen for about a week and them BAM!!!!!!!!!  Anyway, I walked on the methadone maintenance program in February, and have not felt so normal in years.  Methadone DOES NOT have ANY euphoric properties at all.  I feel more clear headee than I have felt in a long time, I am able to work and have become a useful member of society again.  Dont believe the horror stories you raead about MMT. At least you NEVER have to give blood,except when you first are admitted, you can go to the bathroom, and you are not loaded and dont get sick.  If anyone is interested in what I have said tonight feel free to e mail me at ***@****.  This diease is a lifelong battle people, and we all need help.  I will close by saying that BUP is VERY hard on your liver (something the drs. often dont tell you)  Methadone clinics are not what they used to be, I do have to give a urine sample once a month and no one watches me, rhe clinic is clean, and you are conseled and encoureged to join any 12 step group.  On Bup, you give urine EVERY WEEK.  Hope I helped some, and I hope I didnt upset anyone, but I had ro speak out on this matter

I am no expert on this transition,but I know both drugs personally and Scientifically,and I would expect that you must be stable on 10mg of Methadone before starting maximally effective agonist doses of Buprenorphine and abruptly stopping Methadone without getting Methadone withdrawal symptoms.

go to the"new issue of CSAM News" link for the latest info. Bup's introduction is still not expected until the end of the year. But there is plenty of interesting stuff to read about the drug and how they plan to use it. One interesting note: deaths have been reported with patients mixing benzos ike Valium or Xanax or Klonopin and buprenorphne. Something to keep in mind. The also believe a methadone patient must be using 30mg of meth or less to succesfully switch to bup.

do you guys really think the DEA gives a **** about a bunch of ex and or practicing dope fiends? All they would have to do is monitor the methadone clinics, NA meetings and review the triple scripts they get copies of and they would KNOW where to go! Re: IQ's... we all know the fruits of our gifts are not measured by this numerical measure of our capacity to learn... but it never measures our ability to achieve.... it can't measure if we are depressed and can't break through, or if we are going to choose a path that does not permit us to put it out there.. such as all the genius people that are restricted by the corporate bureaucracies they get shoved into after formal schooling.

One of the biggest problems with prodigious children such as you probably were ... and it happened to my son who is 25 and suffered from this and I was guilty of ignorance and wanted to bask in his light and allowed him to be pushed... is that the brightest kids are still kids develomentally ..... they may be able to do higher level comprehension and mathmatecal work than their peers.. so they get moved into situations where they cannot keep the social and personal development in balance with the academic development... it's a defecit in how our educational systems are so far behind in the stone age to address this situation. I think it must be why there are all these brainless and degreed people who are basically stupid robots and act like assholes who are running the world. They can hit a ball real well, memorize and follow instructions and like to fit in.... aaaarrrrrrgh....!!!

so where is the bup? Good f-ing question. The answer is probably distantly related to the same reason we elected a certified moron like President Shrub as leader of the free world. We've always been behind Europe when it comes to medicine. Why the f- is that, anyway? What's wrong with our system?

Personally, I've given up waiting for it. It's a harder way to go, but I've just cold turkey'd my way off Darvon and Vicodin and now attend as many AA/NA meetings as possible. Screw the medical establishment in this country. What good are they when you really need them?

Why would you need to ask Spook or anyone for that matter if there is hope for you... hope for what ??? to achieve by standards set by a sick, frenetic world that decides those with the most toys or best toys win... ??? or was there something you wanted to do that you didn't do ?? now to me that's another story.. I have always wanted a little herb garden and to grow roses... I have lots of landscaping stuff that I prune and water..lots of flowers that I bought as plantlings and just stuck in pots... but not started and nurtured by my own hands and filled with the satisfaction of learning all about something... you know a creative endeavor. I have no clue what my IQ is, never have nor do I care.... it will not make me a better person... and it will not guarantee me satisfaction. ... that comes from doing what you love and being who you are. I think you have a quiet wisdom and inner knowing that keeps me in check here.... thats' the trugh. This placement is based upon the substance's medicinal value, harmfulness, and potential for abuse or addiction. Schedule I is reserved for the most dangerous drugs that have no recognized medical use(oh really? when then you look me in the eye you nameless prickless impotent war mongering facist PIG and tell me why tobacco is not included),while ScheduleV is the classification used for the least dangerous drugs. wow, the comments regarding Ibogaine are incredibly intense, and even frightening. I however can't help but be intrigued. When I was in my late teens I experimented with acid a couple of times, and found it to be a life-altering experience. IO felt that I was seeing things "the way they really were". I saw the earth as being sick and injured too-too the extent that it seemed as if the street signs poking out of the ground were causing the Earth actual pain, like it was being stabbed. There was more, but I don't need to get into great detail. I only did it a few times, but it brought on a spiritual rennaissance of sorts for me. I began seeking in earnest a route for spirituality. I began searching for equilibrium within myself. It was profound, and yet I do not have any pretenses that the drug was a spiritual or divine material. It is a chemical that cause chemiocal reactions in the brain. What I did acertain though is that by viewing life momentarily with an altered state of consciousness, people can have personal revelations that may have a lasting positive effect on the world. I do also believe that if overused, it can draw you down too far within yourself, and any positive effects are really lost. In other words, if you end up behaving like you're tripping all of the time, no one will really listen to what you have to say except other trippy people. You just seem to damn insane.

On a side note, my doctor yesterday informed me that 4 Vicoprofen a day is acceptable seeing that I do need to live my life. He prescribed 100 for me. The Fibromyalgia knots in my back get so big now you can actually see them. My husband was horrified (upon seeing the lumps in my back), and I was relieved when they became visually apparent. They can no longer be disputed as being made up. I don't know how to feel about the Vicoprofen-I am relieved and frightened all at once. Be careful what you wish for!!!

Everyone... do not get Ibogaine via the us postal service.. not a good idea.... :-)) and discuss via phone and e-mail in very general terms... in fact although you can probably do it in your home or a hotel room it may be best to never verify where you are going or what you are doing. Most people leave the country and do it in the islands...or on a boat in international waters. For all we know this board is being tracked. I am not paranoid, just realistic. At some point I saw the planet Earth, suspended in space. It was small and it was choked with concrete expressways, buildings and traffic. An inscription displayed: "The Earth Is Dying!"(10) On the left and right-hand side of the screen were representations of two theoretical planets, perhaps our immediate neighbors Mars and Venus. Subtle dotted lines stretched from the Earth to each of these theoretical planets, and the implication was that although they were in our neighborhood they were not realistically available as places we could move to.
