How long does it take to detox of Vicodin?

Hello,
After knee surgery 31/2 years ago I was put on Vicodin. Little did I know I would get hooked. I never really thought about it, since my doctor was giving it to me and I took it how he told me to. Well today is day 2 and night 3 of not having any vicodin. I have terriable legg cramps, sweets and I can not sleep. How long does this last? It is driving me crazy. I do not have any cravings for the vicodin. Just the withdraws are killing me. I have been drinking water and taking baths. But it doesn't help any.
I'm thinking about going to the emergency room and see if they can help me with my withdraws. I have heard about a pill that helps, but then I'm scared of taking another pill as well.
Please let me know how long this is going to last..........

I've been on and off prescribed vics and percs for 5+ years. 28 year old male. I've quit cold turkey 3 times throughout the years. I just did my fourth. Everyone here makes good points as we all go through the same thing. You've gotta want to stop if you are going to get through this. A few pointers from someone that knows what going cold turkey is like every time I do it ....

1.) Day 2-4 are usually the worst. After day 4, symptoms usually start fading away and day by day, mind and body starts feeling better.

2.) Vicodin withdrawls are the lightest. Perc, oxy and benzo(xanax) are MUCH worse. My benzo withdrawl was INSANE ... PLEASE Stay away from benzos if you can. Those things are nuts. My 2nd cold turkey withdrawl was from percocet and xanax. I stopped both cold turkey. This may have been the craziest experience of my life. PLEASE do not get yourself in that type of situation. I wouldn't want my worst enemy to go through that.

3.) Take AT LEAST a multivitamin. I take 12 vitamins in total. You're body is going through a lot and you usually don't eat much through the withdrawl phase. Keep your body fueled up as much as you can.

4.) WATER WATER WATER. I know it's hard to swallow it sometimes but you gotta stay hydrated. You're on the toliet 30 times a day. Make sure you replenish your water supply. This helps you flush out your system faster and only lessens the time you're feeling like crap.

5.) Depression may set in pretty hard going through this. Try to keep your mind on other things and not to think too much. Watch lots of movies. Talk to friends. GET OUT OF THE HOUSE! I've heard others say smoking pot helps, masterbation helps, drinking helps. For me ... staying active and working out as much as I can helps the most. Go on lots of walks. I was up to walking a couple miles 3 to 4 times a day during my withdrawls.

6.) I wouldn't suggest getting active immediately, however, I usually start small walks on day 3 and by day 7, I'm trying to jog, lift light weights and get back into shape. Staying active, drinking water and taking vitamins will force your body into recovery mode. THE SOONER YOU GET YOUR BUTT MOVING, THE BETTER YOU'LL FEEL.

Everytime I go cold turkey, I stop for roughly a year. In that year that I'm not taking these pills, I'm smarter, wiser, emotionally great and in great physical shape. Some of the best accomplishments in my life have happened when I was off off these pills, working out on a regular basis and feeling great.

When I start taking them again, I start slow, on a low dose. Sooner or later, the body builds that tolerance and you're taking more and more. This is when your mind starts getting affected and although you don't see it right away, you're on the road to problems. As I took more, I became more of an aggitated, angry person. My personal relationships go bad and my work performance goes down the tubes.

I have a bad back from a motorcycle accident and car accident. Do these pills help with the pain? Yes. Is the pain bad enough for me to live this crazy life and take them daily? Well, that's what I struggle with. That's why I go in and out with taking these.

I'm now 8 days clean and my withdrawl symptoms are gone. I've lost a good 15 pounds and I'm now working on building my body stregnth back up. At least two walks/jogs a day and lifting light weights.

You can get through the WD symptoms. How many of us here have said we've done it? How many of us here have said that they are better without these drugs? How many have said it's not worth the trouble? We're not making this **** up.

Deal with the withdrawl symptoms and get your mind right. You'll feel amazing once you accomplish it.

clean for the 4th time. will i start taking them again in 6 months to a year? that's what my track record shows. meanwhile, i'll be in the best physical shape of my life ... my personal relationships will be better than ever and my MIND WILL BE RIGHT.

Stay strong out there.

I have taken Vicoprofen everyday for 5 years, until 8 days ago, when my prescription ran out, along with my insurance.  I have Fybromyalgia, Degenerative Disc Disease, and neuropathy.  I have had diarrhea from day 1, and trouble sleeping.  but none of the other "withdraw" symptoms.  I am in so much real pain, I can hardly stand or walk.  I dont feel it is withdraw pain, because it is the type of pain I was in when I spent almost 2 years being tested and scanned only for the MRI to reveal what was wrong.  It is excruciating, and I dont know what to do.  I have a husband and 2 kids, who are wonderful.  But they are having a difficult time understanding why all of a sudden I am immobile.  Why, all of a sudden am I in so much pain?  I used to be able to drive them to their events, and cook dinner every night, and make love at the drop of a hat.  I dont really have a question, I guess I am just venting.  I just want to scream at them.."I have had pain relief for the last 5 years, thats why!!!"  I never had a groggy or "high" feeling.  I was extremely more functional.  Its breaking my heart to not be able to do things anymore.

Not necessarily - last time I quit I had leg pains and tightness at night for well over a month, maybe even longer. That was the biggest problem, nights and sleeping. Two weeks is a pretty good point where you can assess how far you've come - thinking gets clearer, pains lighten up a lot, and general WD sysmptoms become at least tolerable. Good luck!

I shattered my wrist in 2004 in a quad accidet at Pismo Beach.  I was riding my mountain bike every day and very athletc.  I was prescribed vicodone and I had to wait for surgery for 3 days because my xwife didnt want to leave the campsite.  I had surgery and immediately got hooked on V's.  fast forward to 2011 and I ordered Naitrexone from a Canadian Pharmacy so as not trace to my medical records and against prescription advice took a pill after a day long V and Beer binge.  I immediately went into the worst withdrawls i can imagne but did fall asleep.  Now it is day 2, no more severe withdrawls and am sleeping, still taking the Nait.  I have an important job and need to get off opiates once and for all.  does anyone know about my chosen method?  I picked it because the medicine info tells m tat it will block the affects of Vic's so why take them if they aren't going to get me high?  I figure the withdrawls are my pennance for wasted years.
