Need Catapres/Clonidine patch info

Okay- due to the fact that my vitals weren't too great when I went to my doc, they've decided to place me on a patch called Catapres (Clonidine)? My doc said it will help with the anxiety/RLS/Sleep? Does anyone have any advice on this? She's giving it to me for withdrawals from the Tramadol, but I shouldn't need it for longer than 2 or 3 days, being that I was on such a low dose (3/4 of a pill a day) am I right?
If anyone's had any experience on Clonidine, please let me know..
thanks so much!

it's probably not the clonidine ingredient, it's probably a reaction to the adhesive that makes it adhere to your skin, you might want to try the oral form if you still need it, you really need to monitor your b/p.

i have seen as a nurse many people having an intolerance of all types of patches due to the adhesive, i am an insulin dependent diabetic on an insulin pump and i have to start a subq iv site every 72hrs., the adhesive patch i use does the same thing to me, probably not just as bad.

good luck:)

I'm actually feeling okay for now, (noticed I said FOR NOW.. hehe) but I should be okay..  I had a quarter of a pill early this morning, and none since- so, the tapering is finished.. I flushed the rest I had that the doctor gave me- I didn't feel like waiting and weaning anymore.. enough is enough.. ya know??
I bought some 5-HTP, and a really good multi-vitamin for AFTER I take the patch off- which will on Monday, if I don't have a reaction from the Clonidine before that (I have a tendency to react badly to alot of medications!)
I'll keep ya guys posted.. may really need someone to talk to tonight or tomorrow.. :D
Here goes!

Im not the most experienced on this sort of thing, but today is day 3 for me withdrawaling from percocet. The clonidine i pretty much believe is what is getting me through this. im not on the patch, i take the pill form. but every morning when i wake up in that cold sweat and shaking and restless, it takes that away for me. ive been able to go out, function, clean my house. and as soon as it wears off, all those bad symptoms come back. it defintely is helping me.

Okay, got the patch, using it here later on- I guess it takes 2 hours to get into your system? Not sure if anyone has ever used Clonidine before or not?
Thanks guys!

I've been on the patch for months and it definitely helps! Although, recently it has started to really irritate my skin. I used to change it every week but it's started to itch so much that I have to move it every other day. And, it leaves a huge welt and rough, raw itchy patch in a perfect square everywhere it is placed. It can make you tired but that hasn't been constant for me. I stopped wearing it last week because I developed a rash on the sides of my torso and thought it might be the patch. It's been 4 days since I took it off and the rash is worse. So, I think the rash is from my anit-inflammatory. Anyway, Clonodine has helped.

clonidine is amazing for w/d's.. takes away almost all the symptoms. you'll just be a little tired for the few days you will be taking it..

So, you think it's effective as in eliminating w/d's? Would be nice.. lol.. I'm not coming off of a large dose of tramadol, either.. crazy thing is, I've never abused them either, but my body sure got immune to it! Go figure!
I did some research earlier and most detox centers use Clonidine- weird.. My luck it probably won't work for me.. hehe.. I'm unique! lol

this is a very effective short term blood pressure med that has its place with bp spiking during withdrawals. it should not pose a problem as the only problem with clonidine is called a rebound effect. it is short acting therefore blood pressure rebounds to a higher level in some. however, the catapress will allleviate this problem due to its slow delivery transdermally. this should be effective for you. please have someone evaluate your blood pressure. even a home bp monitor would be good just to double check the results.
