how long till its over

i was just wondering about percocet addiction. i have been on and off for 11 years. i have a blown L5 disc that no longer exists in my back. i dont drink, use marijuana, cocaine nothing of any sort. just the pain medication. im well aware of how it works but ive never been on percocet for this long nor has the pain ever been as bad as its been in the last year. ive now been taken percocet for  15 months straight with no break. i was up to 4 - 5/325mg tablets. i am now down by half of that and the first half was no fun. i decided to get down by the 2 pills then had to work  for a month now i have time off and wondering if the second part of this will be worse then the first. i was looking at alot of the people on here and it looks like i actualy have it much easier because i have just taken much less then them. i dont want anybody to think im lookin down or talkin bad about anyone or anything im just callin it how i see it. besides we are all chating for basicly the same reason.  i was wondering if anyone could give me an idea as to how bad this half will be. today is monday 4/13/2010 @2:30 pm. and i have not had any percocet in almost 21 hours and dont feel to bad as of yet. just a little feeling of dirreha coming on and a little runny nose. weakness headache, and nasea which are all mild at this point. but to be honest i really dont want the percocet. i have them in my cabinet but have no desire. i have done the cold turkey before but like i said i have never been on percocet this long. i usally go on and off within 3 months and take 2 a day maybe a third every now and then so withdrawl is over in 3 days and im back on my feet in 5-7 days with no problem. i think i have given alot of info here and will be typing everyday here after to keep posted who cares and can give me some advice or just what to expect. thank you.

Good to hear!  After 3 days you usually start the upswing and begin to feel physically better.  Depression is pretty common after withdrawal.  Anxiety too.  This may skip you since you were down to a lower dose - which is SUPER!  Good job on your 67.5 (every minute counts right!) hours and keep it up.  There are great vitamins recommendations in the Health Pages (top right of forum) called the Amino Acid protocol.  Cant go wrong with vitamins and they can really help with fatigue.  Might be worth a try -- Cant hurt right..

Thanks for the update-its always nice to hear how people are coming along. I love your positivity - it cant be said enough how a positive attitude going into this can make a huge difference in how and if you make it through.

hey bud,
im at 67.5 hrs. sober like i said i have really no use for the pain pills even though they are in my cabinet. it has actually been not to bad just weak and tired alot. going to bed is difficult but i take benadryl. some people say valium which is a benzo. im just not into drugs. i smoked weed maybe 2 dozen times in my life, i have had 3 social drinks in over a year and a half. never did coke, heroin nothing. i have been seeing pain doctors and specilaists for my L5 disc. hopefully they can fix it. because when i work long days using percocet will be nessacery. i have a family to support. i really dont like getting high. im more of a guy that does. let me ask ya is it common to have depression when having withdrawl? i just didnt get it not at all. diarreha, nausea, vomiting yes but no depression lucky i guess or maybe my tolerance is was just not severe. being almost on 3 days guess im almost there and the worst is behind me. thanks for the advice been using my whirlpool 1 time a day and my shower twicw a day. its all been good advice thanx again.

Hi there. First, congrats on wanting off the pills.  It doesnt sound to me like you are an addict, but just someone dependent on pain medication for legitimate pain. With opiates, irregardless of whether your an addict taking them to get high, or a person with pain taking them for relief, your body develops a dependence either way.  Dependence and Withdrawal do not discriminate.  Withdrawal is different for anyone, but if your 21 hours in, then you are doing great.  Your almost at 2 days (24 hours).  You will probably not feel much worse than you do now.  You tapered yourself down pretty properly so you should be over the brunt of this within a few days.    Some things you can do to help try some immodium.  Keep very hydrated (gatorade), eat as healthy as possible.  OTC cold meds can help a little.  Tylenol or Advil for rebound pain and lots of hot baths/showers.  Also start some light walking or exercising.  This will help a lot with possible depression and fatigue.
Best of luck to you and way to go!  Keep up the fight.
