Yes, it's very risky! Seizures are likely with abrupt withdrawal so don't do that. You need to taper off for that reason and because the rebound headaches will be too much for you and will push you toward the pills. Believe me, I've been through this and tapering off is the way to go.
How is your health otherwise?
Hi vicki: Is trying to go off me Fioricet substitute cold turkey to risky?
Thank you for your post. I have taken the substitute for Fioricet ( But/Apap/Caf 50-325-40)since I was about 40 I am now 72. I was originally prescribed Fioricet for headaches after the imitrex no longer worked. I take 2 pills at the onset of a headache up to 6 pills a day. Lately I need to take 3 to 4 pills a day for relief. Today 6/12/2015 I woke up with no headache and did not take any pills. By midday I started getting a slight headache and took two Excedrin. I have gone 24 hours with no Fioricet and hope to be able to make it for 2 more days to get the worse of it over with. Am drinking lots of water, pedialite and will take more excedrin if headache returns.
Okay...I just read your profile. Will your doctor help you with a taper plan? You've taken this for a long time so you need to wean off slowly with something like a pill per day every few weeks under your doctors supervision.
Hi there- You need to cut back a small amount over time; going very slowly. The amount to drop is dependent on your daily dose. Do you think you're addicted? Tell us more about your use-
Hi & Welcome!
Try to stick with one post..OK! It has been kind of slow around here. SO keep checking your post, and we do have many who have detoxed off this med.
I can only tell you too drink TONS of water right now. Try adding Electrolyte Powders too your water. Make sure you are taking some great vit/min as we have to replenish what we have lost during our drug use. I cam clean off of 3 meds back in 2012, but I will let the ones who have experience with this drug help you. I will be back when it gets going. There are TONS of changes that have to be made with Addiction. Plus it takes time for the Brain Chems to balance back after the physical w/ds.
Time & Patience. The length of /wds can vary from person to person. How old you are, how many drugs you came off of, what MG you got up too, and how many yrs of drug use. If you used a short time then you have so much better luck at bouncing back.
Just keep checking your post. We come in waves. I will be back to check on you. Some body will be here soon.
Bless
