I'm thinking about getting a piano myself. Its hard to mess up once you learn the basics. I mean the thing stays in tune all the time, mostly. I'd like to learn some basic piano chords to bang out the blues, like I do on the guitar. My right hand is damaged though, from my past and some recent surgeries so I won't be very dexterious (is that the word or the sp), but it would also serve to work out the hand, kind of physical therapy.
i am not musically inclined. I dont have the patience for it but then again ive not been sober much either so no sober-no patience. ive always wanted to learn piano, LOVE tori amos. Guitar too and bass but just never could get past those few basic chords.
I love Pink Floyd...my neice, who is 14, is learning to play and she plays a lot of Pink Floyd stuff...she's getting really good. She played Elton John's "Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters" for me recently and it was great! I'm proud of her. I really want to learn, so I'm going to give a try. Thanks for the tips.
Thank you both... VOsRose, lessons won't kill you, but they are not as fun as simply finding a few tunes you like and learning the beat and the chords for them. You would be amazed how easy many of the Pink Floyd tunes are. You know what songs you like, so google for guitar tabs for them. I play with a band called "Ipod" Hee Hee. They're the only folks that let me play lead (Yes I do mean my IPOD). That is a good way to learn songs. Tune to a pitch pipe to "key", then get the tabs, and try to play along with the real guys. Its easier than you think....You do have to be "in tune" to a pipe or piano though for it to"match" keys.
I agree with Bettie...you can sing for us anytime. I wish I could play the guitar...two of my brothers do and are quite good. They just strum acoustic and sing, but it's always a good time! I play piano, but can't seem to get the hang of guitar. Maybe I should try some lessons??
Rosie yes I got your email and sent the files to your messenger. I will also send them to your yahoo mailbox.
slide- you can sing for us anyday. i love to hear people play guitars, its soothing and just happy.
I'm with you on the music thing. I'm an old guitar player myself. It's only when I start singing that folks leave the room.......LOL
Sorry, hit the enter key instead of tab....music is one of the most important things to me, especially when withdrawing....it helps you focus on somethig outside of yourself, feeds the mind, and for some reason just makes everything better in general.....it's like a heart transplant when you feel like you have nothing left in there....sing along at the top of your lungs, that makes it almost trancendental....good morning to everyone!
Like some of the others, music
Hey, girl. Honeymoon sex...hmmmm. Yep...plenty of that! LOL
Don't worry about me f'ing up...YOU don't! LOL We have to stay on course...we're sobriety twins!
Did you get my e-mail from the last post? Let me know.

thanks bettie! If anyone is into club music or house/trance music to be more specific, get in touch with me. I'd be happy to share some of my music that makes me feel just that much better about being alive...really pumps me up and adds a good needed bit of euphoria...
yer not hijacking this thread. its meant for everyone. of course youre welcome to post!
Dont want to pirate this thread, but everytime I have gone through withdrawls, I listen to my mixes (im a DJ) and I find in a way it helps, its something to be embraced...
Better than Ezra was good...and its unfortunate what happened to them.
Good pick tho!
im great and you? were on the same day so dont go f'ing up on me so well be all off n stuff! haha
i bet yer doing great! are ya?
P.S. did you ever finally get that good honeymoon s e x without falling asleep?
Wow...most people I talk to don't even know who Better Than Ezra is. Amazing. We saw them in concert in July and they were awesome. I've seen them many, many times being from Lousiana.
I have never heard the song you mentioned, but I will definately find it and listen. Music, for me, is the great healer...that's for sure!
Speaking of music...Led Zepplin is getting back together for a one-time gig, supposedly in November in London. We've got a friend of ours in the music industry working on tickets right now! They are going to do a one-time charity concert with Bonham's son sitting in on the drums. I wish they were going to do one last tour, and you never know.
How are you today? Day 32, girl! Awesome!!!!

i also love all music except rap and hip hop. too funny. And I agree with you rosie, music inspires me and puts me in a great mood (most of the time) sometimes its needed to cry, sometimes you just need to blast it in the house or the car and just sing loudly! There was a song that used to make me cry when I was going thru a breakup a year or so ago by james blunt called "goodbye my lover". heard that one yet? if you need to cry thats a great one to put on.
i love better than ezra. got all their music on my mp3 and believe it or not I used to have the cassette tape way back in the day!
Music has always been a huge part of my life, and I love every genre (with the exception of Rap and Hip/Hop.) It can bring me out of a bad mood, help me cry when I need to, energize me when I'm listless, and inspire me when I'm struggling. Put that CD in today...it will probably make you smile! :-)

I love music...mostly Grateful Dead and acoustic guitar work. Lately I'm not quite in the frame of mind for listening to music..part of depression? don't know. Maybe tonight on the way home from work...I bought a jazz CD at a Starbucks a couple months ago I want to listen to.
