S.C. Suboxone/Subutex help, without giant fees?

I have been seeing a physician in Midlands of South Carolina for a good while, and he helped me get off of pain medicine, after pancreas, knee, hernia, and kidney surgeries. I have weaned down to only about 4 mg of Subutex a day, and take it 2mg piece in morning and 2mg before bed. I have taken it for about 9 months, with no "fall off the wagon". Last month, my doctor sent a letter to his patients that said he would no longer be writing  any scripts for suboxone. I have weaned down to 4mg a day, from the initial 8mg bid, and now I feel like I have been thrown to the curb. The doctor also seems to not have enough time for his patients, coming in and spending 3 minutes, will not help most people. I have had counseling and the Subs have SAVED MY LIFE!  I called a couple of doctors in my town and they do not know anything about Suboxone, and I called a few from a list online, and they all seem to want $500 or more, before they even see me. If anyone can help me with information on a doctor who may be willing to take on a new patient, who has almost reached the end of needed treatment and would like to wean on until I comfortably am free of all of it, let me know. If any medical professionals are reading this, and would like to help a nurse out, let me know. I do appreciate it.

I'm so sorry you are in this predicament!!!  That's a tough one for sure.  Did your current doc offer to give you a referral to another clinic, or offer any kind of follow up help for you?  4mg a day is actually a significant enough dose, that coming off at that dosae abruptly would probably be very difficult.

You COULD go to the sub website, not only to find a list of docs in your area (you may have to include a longer distance in your search, for more options), but also to look into their programs they offer to help people with the expense.  There are a few different ways to get the cost lower, but unfortunately, there is still a decent amount of money involved.  In the least, there is always a co-pay discount card available, to help lower the cost.  That takes off $50/month total (more if there is insurance).  If a clinic doesn't have them available, you can get them from the website.

If you can transition to a new clinic, you should be able to successfully taper down over a period of a few months, to a much more tolerable place to jump off.  The Sub doctor I worked with never recommended anyone coming off until they had tapered down to at least 0.5mg a day (just as an example).

See what you can find...keep calling around, explain that you've already been on sub, you don't need an induction dose or anything,.,.,.a GOOD sub clinic will have programs in place to allow people to move into their program from another without ALL of the initial fees and red tape involved that a person who was new to Sub would incur.

Hope you figure something out soon hun!  Let us know!
