To Everyone in Recovery

I was talking to my fiance yesterday about my recent relapse.  He told me something that is so awesome and so simple that I wanted to share it with everyone.  He, too, is an addict.  His addiction is alcohol.  He quit drinking years ago and never, ever relapsed.  This is what he told me:

"You have to somehow make yourself know, when that neuron fires in your brain and tells you that taking a pill is a good idea, another one is going to fire right behind it that tells you it's not a good idea.  Wait for that second neuron to fire."

Wow.  I never really thought about it that way.  It's as simple as that.

I'm glad.  I found it very simplified but makes so much sense.  I, too, will forever be active on this forum.  It is the best resource I have ever come across.  So many caring and knowledgable people.

that sounds sooo logical, why didnt anyone ever think of that before...i have heard something similar to quitting smoking  "the craving for a cigarette only lasts as long as it takes to smoke one"   i am going to try to put this to use when things get tough for me..thanks...

I have been reading the forum since 7-15 my last day on tyelenol 4 I had big time w/d  I was taking 8-10 at one time  I think I am almost through the w/d except mental I think about them a lot, but what you said about where to get them, the money, I am always running out, and the lies to my family, no I am not taking anything, I am not high. I read these posts and I think a lot of people have some of the same kind of issues that I have. I took those T4'S for five years or more. I think I am 20 days clean right now but this is tough. I am 62 years old so this problem runs through every age group, but I am glad to know I could stop the pills c/t and at 62 I quit smoking three months ago. This forum has helped me stop the pills so many members had the same types of issues I had  and their advice got me through this awful thing
Thanks, this forum made the diference for me.
