To all the nurses or health professionals(Liver)

Well I was using hydrocodone 10/325/ for about 7 months, I was taking about 12-15 a day and then for the last 2 months I started taking about 20 a day (6.5 grams of Tylenol) I am off it now and am finishing up with the wd's but I still have some lingering pain under the last rib on my right rib cage,  I know i had to have done some damage to my liver, But what does that mean for me going forward? I know blood tests can tell the extent of the damage but I wont have health care for a while.  I am young, Am I just going to keel over? the pain in my side is barley noticeable any more, but I don't know what I should do or shouldn't do. what does it mean if i did to damage to my liver? what are will happen to me? I mean did I just take like 20 years off my life?

Thanks every one

You are wise to be quitting drugs now while you are young.. I have stage 2 liver disease... Let this scare be a reminder to you.. Taking years off your life for a drug is not worth the price.. I wish you a good clean life.. lesa

Hello
I am a nurse and actually worked GI/hepatology(liver) x 10yrs.
You know you were way over the recommended dose of tylenol for awhile there. I'm sure your liver didn't like it esp if you drank ANY alcohol @ all...that being said if liver damage has occured once you remove the offending substane(tylenol) and give it a break everything should be a ok.The very bright although anti-herb/homopathic approach MD I wked for said milk thistle in recommended doses wouldn't hurt ?ed if it actually helped so in my mind why not give it a try.Being young is also in ur favor. When you get insurance they can check your liver enzymes SGOT/SGPT ect as elevation represents damaged cells.Till then be kind to ur liver and you'll be fine. Hope this helps.

I'm not a nurse and do not know the answers to your questions.  But, if you take Milk Thistle it helps the liver.  You can buy it over the counter at Walmart or any health food store.

Are you free from hydrocodone now?

Good luck and I'm sure someone will come along who can answer some of your questions.  There's also a doctor in the expert area for addiction - perhaps look that up and ask the same questions over there.
