CAN DOCTOR TAKE YOUR MEDS BACK

izu
I GOT INJURED IN 2001 AS WORKING AS A CNA. I'VE HAD BACK INJECTIONS(THAT DON'T HELP) I WAS LIVING IN FLORDIA AND MY PAIN MANAGEMENT WAS VERY WELL CONTROLLED BY MEDICATION. STILL HURT BUT TOLERATED. THEY HAD ME ON METHADONE,MORPHINE,LORCET,OXCONTIN. I MOVED TO THE STATE OF PENNSYLVANIA AFTER MY HUSBAND PASSED. I BROUGHT ALL MY MEDICAL RECORDS AND X-RAYS MRI'S. NOW I'VE BEEN ON MEDICATION SINCE 2001. I THOUGHT IT WAS A STATE LAW AND GAVE MY NEW DOCTOR MY METHADONE 60MG 110 PILLS. HE ORDERED MORPHINE SULF 60MG AND MORPHINE SULF 15 MG FOR IN BETWEEN PAIN. NEXT THING I KNOW HE SAYS HE  CAN'T GIVE PAIN MEDCATIONS NO MORE, JUST LIKE THAT. I ASK HIM WANT TO DO AND HE SAID GO TO THE HOSPITAL SWEETY WHICH I GOT TO GO EVERY 10DAYS THEN I ONLY GET PERCET WHICH DO NOTHING. I ASK HIM FOR SOMETHING FOR WITHDRAWS. HOW LONG DO THEY LAST. MY BACK HURTS SO BAD I HATE LIFE AND FEEL LIKE ENDING IT. I CALLED A PAIN DOCTOR AND HE SAID SEPT 14TH ALMOST 3 MONTHS. CAN A DOCTOR DO THAT? CAN I GET MY MEDICATION  I GAVE HIM BACK? I HURT AND I SUFFER ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANK YOU AND GODBLESS. OH ONE MORE THING DO YOU GIVE YOUR OLD DRUG BACK TO THE  DOCTOR? IF I HADN'T DONE IT I WOULD STILL HAVE MY MEDS. GODBLESS

You need to start all over again with a new doctor. New MRI or cat scans and then talk about pain meds.  I absolutely understand.....been there............its horrible.
If you take pain meds for pain you will not become addicted........if you take pain meds and you are not in pain..............addiction will be right around the corner....
you need medical attention STAT....when you start talking depressed like you were in that post....you need to get to the doctor right away! Take care and God Bless.

Florida has much more liberal laws then up north in Yankeeville.....

Personally I think you are way over medicated and in full blown addiction.....

Your new doctor is probably saving your life even though you don't see it that way..........

You didn't explain why your doctor took your medication back.  But whatever the reason, medication change, not working, etc... and your early, most doctors will ask you to bring in the remaining medication before he/she will write another presciption.  They will destroy the medication immediately, so I wouldn't get your hopes up if you plan to ask for them back.  The doctors do it to protect themselves from patients looking to sue and the DEA from shutting them down for obvious reasons. I'm sorry you are having to deal with all of these issues. It sounds like you need to find yourself a good pain management doctor.  Good luck!

At my PM Dr. in TN you bring in all your meds

I have heard on more than one occasion of the Dr. keeping your meds and dismissing you.

Hm...wonder what the docs REALLY do with meds they take back?  Would be a pretty simple matter to keep them for themselves.

The same thing happened to me,  I've been on oxycontine, vicodine, soma and celebrex for 3 years, 3 weeks ago he did a urine test and said, I wasn't taking my pills .  ?......I can't believe my test came back negative , but it's his word against mine, so yes, he stopped all my medicine, he wouldn't listen to a word I said, and he banned me from his office....now what?.....talk about withdrawal. it's rough. luckily I had a few pills to last and I got into a pain clinic. but I guess what I'm trying to say, is, yes they can pull you off your meds.....I doubt you'll be able to get anything you returned to him, he probably pitched them by now. try to get into another doctor or clinic,,,,ok. boy I sure know what your going through. hang in there. K?

I know that Florida and PA are very different as far as Dr's and pain meds. PA seems to be much more conservative and Dr aren't free with prescribing of pain meds to people as they are in Fla. I really don't know what the laws are from state to state but from personal experience, even going to an ER in PA, they give out a mininal amt of narcotics. My mother severely fractured her wrist this year and the ER reduced it manually (put the bone back together by pulling her hand and upper arm in opposite directions, suffice it to say that she was literally screaming in pain!  They gave her a script for 15 5/500 Vicodin! That's it!  She then had surgery and said she could have 30 vicodin but to take Tylenol after that! So yes, I think there are differences from state to state!  Did you ask your MD for your meds to be returned?  Did her refer you to a pain specialist?  What did you do to your back and have you had surgery?  Just trying to understand a little more of your story. I'm sorry you are in such pain and that these meds are not helping you. I hope someone else here has more knowledge than I about your predicament.
Peace,
Marcie:)

You are in a really rough spot, that is for sure.  I don't understand though what made you give him your meds to begin with?  I have never heard of anyone doing that before and I have worked for doctors most of my adult life.  I doubt if the doctor still has the medicine you gave him, he probably had them destroyed.  You may just have to keep searching for a pain management doc, even going out of town.  Sorry you are in such a mess, I really do feel for you.
Whoever told you to turn your meds into him really messed you up.

Love, Cindy
