clorazepate to w/d from tamazepam good idea???

My psych has had me on 4mg of Ativan (Lorazepam) for about 6 years. I told him I wanted to stop being a slave to the med & I have successfully tapred down to 1.5 most days with an occasional slip back to 2 at night to sleep. I seemed to have hit a wall and cannot get lower than this amount so the dr gave me Clorazepate to take at night along with 1mg of the Lorazepam...none in the daytime. It was originally 2 spread out in the A.M. for anxiety and 2 at bedtime for sleep. I was told that the Clorazepate. lasts longer and will help me ease off the other. But, I looked it up and it's addicting too, isn't it? Does anyone know if this is a good idea? Has anyone here succesfully tapered off ativan or another benzo without another med's help? If yes, how? I tried to stop ct but ended up in the ER. I'm concerned because I begin a new job soon.

Congrats on your tapering!
Your dr switched you to a long acting benzo, clorazepate has a 1/2 life of 48 hours. It is the usual thing to do when tapering off a benzo.
I'm currently finishing my tranxene, clorazepate, tapering plan, if you need any info, feel free to msg me.
Best of luck to you. sophie.

I'm asking because I don't want to taper off one only to be building up another. I respect my dr but don't trust him because I should never have been on the Lorazepam this long. Well, I figured that out myself. So, anyone's perspective would make me feel better.
