I was at one time on oxycontin and norco for over a year, I then had back surgery and my doctor a pain management specialist put me in suboxone 8mg every 6hrs and lyrica 300mg every 8hrs, This has controlled my pain for the most part. But everyone is different when it comes to managing pain. Not realy knowing your reason for pain management it is rather hard to recommend if suboxone would be the right choice for you, I can tell you this suboxone may not be suitable because of your depression, But depression is very common with people who are physically dependant on opiates. The condition is called post acute withdrawal syndrome (PAWS) you should realy check the website called www.naabt.org a professional organization that will provide you with an information kit at no charge. I hope you have insurance that covers the drug as it is expensive. Good Luck -----NOAH
Hello again.
First off, the Suboxone is not using for detoxing off of Prozac or Xanax. Prozac is for your depression, which you state that you still have. It would be a good idea to talk to your doctor before going off of that. Xanax needs to be tapered off of in order to avoid withdrawal and seizure. Also, you are on a relatively low dose of Percocet and could fairly easily taper off. Suboxone is an opiate, and also is used for people who are high doses of pain meds, for long periods of time. I don't think a doctor would say that you qualify for the program.
In some cases Suboxone is used for pain management. Your doctor will have to determine if you qualify.
Before you decide on Suboxone, please do yourself a favor and research it first. Make certain that you armed with information before starting.
Still, I don't think it is necessary for you, and why start yet another drug? Your choice.
Good Luck.
You told us of the drugs you take on a regular basis. How often do you take the Oxycontin? I agree with IBKleen, you need to do a lot of research. You shouldn't just hop off these drugs onto another, especially since you will still need to treat your depression and anxiety. You need to research Suboxone a lot. go to naabt.org and suboxone.com and do some reading. That should help you a lot. If you're really not using the oxycontin, then you could probably taper off the Percocet. Suboxone can be used for chronic pain, but generally is used in opiate tolerant patients and you aren't taking all that much opiate. I'm a big fan of Suboxone, but only if used in the right situation.
hey itchy - i am behind IB all the above posts. your situation is a little complicated & i think you have to consider each medication carefully, as well as the sum effect. i think you need a dr for that for sure.
but to quickly answer 1 of the points to my best experience: sub is still some sort of opiate based drug & i found it did help with my back pain while i was on it. for what it's worth...
good luck. let us know! and how do you function on 3 xanax a day - through out the day. i take a 1mg xanax & i am OUT for at least 6-8 hours. if not more. just curious :)
