I have spent 6 of the last 7 years incarcerated or institutionalized. I am drunk again. It is all I know. I just want to live in society. Any others relate to this?

unfortunately aa doesn't work for everyone.  what i can tell you from my own experience with addiction is that you need something, a hobby or whatever does it for you, to focus your energy on after you get cleaned up.  when stopping using we are all left with a huge hole in our lives where the DOC used to be.  so i feel it is not enough to just cut things out of your life.  you have to add something to take it's place, hopefully something healthy and productive.

Welcome to the forum! Sorry to hear about your incarceration and institutionalization,if you don't mind me asking what was it for. As for relating ,being an addict is a prison all of it's own. Many people here can relate.Since you wrote to the forum it seems to me you are reaching out for help and this is the place to get it.Every one on here has been in their own little prison in one way or another but one thing we all have in common is we are all now free and fighting to stay that way every day.You can do it to,the road will not be easy but it is doable and so worth it,please keep posting and ask any question you need to we will all do our best to help you.Hoping you find peace,
