how to tell my doctor

My pain doctor has no idea that I decided to come off my meds.  I tried the taper method and hated it.  Way to long of a process for me personally.  I just needed to get it done.  I am not sure how to tell him without him flipping out on me (I did not have to sign a pain management contract- that was in the works).  I just could not longer take being on the stuff and found that my tolerance for the Fentanyl just kept going up.  I am also not taking the percs I have.  How do I tell him without being in big trouble?  Maybe there is no way and it may be for the best.  I was just afraid of him trying to discourage me or try to put me on something else.

You will be surprised at the compassion some PM have for thier patients. If you are honest with him he may even (and should) help you through the process. If he gets an attitude about you wanting to be clean then it time to find another PM because he probably only after money and doesn't really care about you. Good luck and I will pray for you.

IF your pain doc. doesn't understand your decision or if he stands in the way then it's time to find a new doctor. Your pain med. contract usually states you WON'T get pain meds from another doc, you WON'T ask for early refills, you WON'T give your pills to someone else. I don't think I've ever seen one that says "you WILL stay on opiates'.  If you are serious about going another route you need to talk with the doctor. A good pain med . doc should lay out your other options for you.
don't be afraid.
Why are you on the pain meds? Obviously it's some sort of chronic pain problem.
Seriously, don't worry. The doctor should respect your decision and if it doesn't work out then you may discuss going back on opiates. Either way, if this doctor is not supportive of your decision then find another doctor. I don't know of any medical reason why someone would have to stay on opiates and of any doctor who would insist you do.
Just my two cents.
don't stess out.
It's going to be okay.
