Chalk - Hi I noticed on your profile that you like to jog.  I used to jog but its been about 7 years.  I just started a fast paced walking regeem last monday.  The last few days I have been fast walking/jogging to try to get my endurance up to where I can jog for 20 minutes at a time and do a mile and a half . I can only jog for 10 or 15 minutes at a time, in between the fast walking. I am doing this because I am a cronic pain patient amd I want to get physically strong so I can  reduce my meds to the point that I can hopefully get off of them. I am prescribed 30mg hydro 100 tylenol time released pills @3 a day.  I usually take them too fast and have to have some degree of wd's every month.  Ive been on them for 3 1/2 yrs. (not at that high dose though) A couple weeks ago I tapered down and had 2 days with none.  I got my tolerance way down, so now I've been taking 1 or 2 a day.  My question to you is, how long do you think it will take for me to loose some weight with my new exercise?  I even gained 2 pounds!  I am in my 40s, but I really thought that I'd loose some pounds, not gain!  I even cut out beer while I was tapering from the hydros, which was for me about 1500 caleries a week.  Thanks for any reply.  K

hi, thanks for your response.  I wasnt on here yesterday or today til now, its 6pm et.  The exercise is definately making me feel stronger and I feel better about  myself for doing it.  Its not too good for my neck pain, though!  I definately need to cut the calories to loose the weight.  I am about 20 lbs over weight. Thats not a whole lot, but I am short, about 5 ft.  I am a mom of 4 kids and its hard to put the time into myself.  But I am determined to do it.  I think I will be a better mom if Im a healthier one!!!  I think that next week I'll start really paying attention to what I eat.  Last year I lost 15 lbs on Weight Watchers.  I kept off ten of it.  Now if I keep building muscle and doing the cardio, Im sure that if I watch my food intake, I'll loose some weight.  Again, thanks for your reply I hope you keep up with your exercise!  K

i got some "kangoo jumps" to run in, their like spring loaded boots, and reduce the impact by 80%, if you google kangoo jumps youll find them, theyre kinda weird to run in at first, and people do look twice as i bounce by, but im 6'1" and 220 lbs and jogging in these kangoos is fun for me, jogging in normal running shoes was always punishing.

my sleepig is ok, most nights ill get 4 -6 hours straight, but seem to wake at 5 at to poop? and going back to sleep after that is impaired by some anxiety :(

i dont wake up enthusiastic like i did when i was younger (im 43) i dont feel 'rested' but i do sleep?

i was told it can take years to recover from years of pill use.i took pils for 3.5 years, i feel a little better every week and the excersise definately helps, but im accepting it may take some more time for my brain chemistry to return to a great place.

i also will miss a run if i just cant face it,  but will got the next day.

if reccomend some kangoo jumps for you as your back is not right, and impacting your back while running cant help?

older models can be found on e bay for $45 and free shipping.

Congrats on the 6months...can not wait to get there!! Are you getting better with your sleep patterns as of yet? if so when did they start to get better?I like you have back problems. I try to run 4-5 nights per week. There are times when i can not go at all because i am having an "back episode" as i call it and can barely move let alone walk. But i do have to admit when it is "my normal" the running actually helps.I guess it has to do with the endorphins and just the pure mental aspect of going out and doing something. It was extremely hard for me to get going as well. Actually some nights i would not go cause i could not motivate myself....four hours later when everyone else would be fast asleep in their cozy beds i would be wide freaking awake on my couch....so i would force myself to just go for a short run/walk. These nights i would actually have my best work-outs and feel awesome.I could come home shower and get 4-5 hours of such a deep sleep that i was refreshed and ready for the next day. It took me a long while to get up to where i am now and still have a way to go til i can run 3-4 miles straight without walking in between but hey....even if it is just walking it is something and feels great!!! Keep up the hard work and do not give up(like me on certain nights :> lol!!! As far as losing the weight you can try the calorie counting like i did. To me it is very simple how much we eat and what if any excersise we do if any at all. I lost most of my weight without the excersise for two reasons...first i had not started excersising yet because i was still using my lortabs and did not start walking until i was detoxing and needed to go for long walks at all hours of the night because i could not sleep anywauy!! Secondly i was way over weight and did not want to risk injury by runnign until i lost some wieght. So i found for my age weeight height and gender i could eat 2,200.2,600 calories without gaining weight. I read that for every 3,500 calories you lose a lb or gain a lb...so i started to count the calories to everything i ate and for two months only ate 1,200-2,000 calories per day. Within two months i had lost close to 28lbs. I have maintained the weight lose and it has been over a year now. I am back to eating close to 2,600 calories and more sometimes...but i am also now excersising so i burn off some ot those extra calories now. It is not a hard as you think doing it this way because you still can eat any and all of the foods you like just not as much of them if they are high in calories. I never ate a big breakfast if any so that was easy on me...could have good size lunch and a good dinner. (and still eat my ice cream too!!!) If you want more information on it go to my profile page and e-mail me!! when i typoed in the web site for the calorie site i do not think it actually posted it. Peace!!hawk

K, Hello...sorry i have been away for the past two days but wanted to answer some things for you. We are both the ame age and have similar issues. I also have moderate to severe back pain. I started to walk during my withdrawls to try to getr my endorhins going again and to help naturally with my back pain. I am 5'7" 160 lbs. I started to walk 4-6 miles during week two of my withdrawls(i am now in the middle of week six totally clean). after the second week of excersise i started to walk a mile jog half walk mile jog half the walk last mile. i did that for two weeks and now i am walking mile running mile walking mile running mile. I hope in another week to two i will be able to put a mile and half to two miles of running together. During this period of time i actually gained two pounds also....you have got to remember muscle weighs more than fat...so i think(hope) i am adding muscle tissue to my body and losing more fat tissue therefor gaining a LITTLE weight!!!! My goal is 158lbs. I was 198 lbs and way overweight for me. If i get down to 158 i will be satisfied because if i fluctuate 2-4 lbs it will not be that big of a deal. I used to run competitively in high school and college(cross country and track).I also played baseball all at UN of South Fla. So in my mind when i work out i still feel as though i can do what i did backl then 18 years ago. As we both know that is such a falacey!!!I have pretty much gotten through all of my withdrawl issues with the exception of big time sleep problems and still get restless leg a lot. Also my mind gets some real weird stuff going on...its not a pain but a weird feeling going on up there sometimes...i can not explain it and have not heard or read any posts about anyone talking or describing it at all. Wish i knew what that was all about...i am just riding it out and taking day by day. Hoping and waiting for it all to be over one day. I am so proud of the fact that you have taken the initiative to start excersising again. Have you found that the endorhins kick in at all when you finally get back home at all? Mine do but it only lasts for a few hours...but it is such an awesome feeling knowing it is my own bodies natural response to help with pain than me taking pills.  As for losing the pounds..if you count yopur calories you will lose a pound for every 3500 calories that you do not intake. For example if you cut out your beer intake that you said was about 1500 cal per week....then every two weeks you should lose a pound(if and only if you do not eat or drink those 1500 calories of something else in its place). Try it it will really work.I used this method to lose my 38 pounds. I did not diet because i like all my foods and my ice cream!! So i decide to cut my calorie intake 500 cal. per day...so every week i would lose a pound w/o excersise. When i would go running it would cut approx 300 more cal per night...so i was losing almost 2lbs per week. I got to the point that i could t4ell you how many pounds i was going to be(lose) before i stepped on the scale. If you try this it will and does work. There is a web site www.annecollins.com where you can go to put your age gender height and weight. It will tell you how many calories you can eat per day without gaining any weight....so if you knock off 500 cal per day off that you pretty much know with out excersise yopu can lose a pound per week. This again is how i lost 38 pounds and did not have to give up any of my favorite foods and deserts(ice cream!!!). to repeat myself if you add your excersise regiment to this you will lose the weight even faster. you will be able to count the calories you eat each day and know pretty much exactly where you are and what you will lose even before stepping on a scale. The web site even lists resturantes and entries with what their calories are so if you dine out you have a very good idea what the calories are/where of what you ate. If the forum does not let you see the web site address i listed just e-mail me and i will get it to you i will list you as one of my freind on my post...just click on the blue CHAWK47 nad my e-mail address is listed there. write me back if you have any other questions!!!
