i changed my script, Now what?

I have in the past year had several surgeries that have required me to be on Dilaudid as a pain killer. I was recently released from the hospital with a prescription for 18 pills, I added a pen mark to the 1 and made it a 4, in turn giving myself an additional 30 pills. The pharmacist did not fill the prescription and said that she needed to get the name of the Dr who prescribed it because the Dr. that was listed in on script did not match the Dead number. She faxed this to the hospital with the changed script. When she told me this I became very afraid and told her I would take the script back to the hospital and have the DR rewrite it with the correct information. So I have the script in my possession at the moment. When I got home I poured alcohol on the entire script to blur the ink so you can not see where I changed it. Should I be worried about police showing up or someone finding out? IN the mean time I realize that if I am making stupid decisions such as this one without thinking about the consequences I truly do have an addiction problem, I called my local county health services and left a message for the narcotic abuse department to call me to arrange for counseling. I am really afraid at this point

Well I went to the hospital, with the watered down script, they shredded those they
Rewrote my scripts. As it turns out the DEA numbers did not match the dr that was listed on the script. So to my knowledge the hospital was not notified I think I might have someone looking out for me and this could be just a warning sign. I also called and arranged to meet with a pain management Dr, next week. I talked to a county Councilor at the narcotic addiction center and they do not want to see me because I do have legitimate pain issues. So they are going to try to wean me off of the Dilaudid and put me on some kind of non narcotic pain killer cocktail. And use Thorazine and Xanax to help with the withdrawal symptoms.

WEll day two and still no word from hospital or police or pharmacy, i have to go to the hospital today to pick up more meds for an infection that i have so i guess i will find out for sure what my fate is. Maybe god will smile on me and will overlook the change of script. It is such a terrible thing to spend your whole life avoiding drugs, tabacoo, etc... and have Dr's not treat you properly resulting in an addiction. Your thoughts and prayers are apprecated.

This is a federal crime as well. Not sure how they write scripts in Virginia but here in West Virginia the prescribing doctor always writes out how many its for like this : 18 (eighteen). I kow someone who tried to do the same thing you did. When they got the script it was for 10 (ten) and they made the 1 into a 4 not paying attention to the word ten written out from the numbers. The pharmacist told her it was a serious crime and that he was suppose to call the police but since he knew her he didn't. He also didn't fill the script and told her to get help. I believe you can be charged county and federal for this. And you know federal time is the pen. not the regional jail. This may sound harsh but you need to plan ahead. When did you try to do this?

Everyone is basically right except I think it is a felony-3. The charge being attempting to obtain a controlled sentence by fraud. Even if you did not fill the RX you attempted to, Pharmacist know that Hospitals do not prescribe that quantity of Dilaudid. She was only stalling you when she said the DEA # did not match as Hospitals have a single DEA# for the physicians while on the hospitals time.
I could be wrong about the overall DEA # for the hospital. You obviously have insurance if you have had several surgeries in the past. I would call my PCP #  on 11/2/ 07 and explain to him what happened. Now is the time to get honest. Get him to refer you to a inpatient detox, You dont want to be arrested and have to detox in jail if you can not make bail, Because it is a felony your looking at prison time, Hire yourself a good trial attorney that has experience with this type of charge. If this is your first offence you will probably get a suspended sentence with a probation officer, Which means curfews and surprise visits and random urine's. I dirty and your going away for at least a year and 1 day. If you can get out of this one you have a guardian angel. Is there a friend you can stay with until you know what your going to do, because Virginia does not play. If this doesn't snap you back to reality I don't know what will-------NOAH  The attorney will run you at least $7,500.00 easy call a bonds man as well get prepared.

Sorry but the evidence is there...the script was faxed to the Hospital. While it wasn't filled there is record of the tampering.  I have to say that I have pretty much gone to lengths to get my pills but never stole from my job or changed a script. I think you will be ok but I hope this has given you the wake up call that we all have needed!  Please stay strong and beat this addiction!
Peace!

You did the right thing in leaving there fast.  I don't think you can get into trouble for this since you didnt get it filled. And where is the evidence?  Destroyed right.   Don't do anything like that again.  Get some help before you get into some major trouble.  Good luck. TJack

I forgot to add, I also was once tempted to change my vicodin 5/500 script once. I was gonna add a 7.  in front of it to get 7.5 mg....and i realized they dont makea  7.5/ 500,  only 7.5/750 I think! Thank GOd I didnt do that either. I definitely would have been caught by doing that!

Wow. Hopefully this is your huge wake up call, and it wont cost you any jail time. Thats one thing Ive never done-forge a script, no matter how tempting. I wont lie, I had thought of it before, perhaps adding a refill (once a doc dindt mark the "no refill" box or anything) but I didnt do it. THank God. Forging Rx's is a very serious offense. Hopefully you wont be in any legal trouble since you didnt get it filled and you have the script. DONT try to do another thing with it! Let this be your wake up call to get help before you do irreverisble damage and end up in jail!  Good luck to you and keep us posted
