Hi Folks,I'm new here.

Hi everyone,I'm Scooter.I'm new here...found it during a Google search.Anyway,I need a little...well alot of help.I had been clean and sober for over 3 years. Then I had a Kidney stone....The pain was horrendous! I tried not to take the the pain medication in the ER,but they could not hold me still to make a diagnosis. Two hours after arriving I eventually let them give it to me.Well, that led to surgery that evening and waking up on a Morphine IV.Needless to say it was over after that...The Beast was awakened again!

The addict in my head said "oh,they say you need it,so it's ok."

That was 4 months ago.Now I'm up to eating six 10mg.Norcos every 6 hours....And I HAVE to stop! I've decided to go cold turkey starting today.I know it's going to be horrible...But does anyone have any suggestion to lessen the severity of the withdraw? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks-Scooter

Hi there, it's great to have you here.  I'm sure you will get many comments and suggestions.  There are a few really good ways to get clean I have learned in the past week or two of being in this forum.  There is the cold turkey route.  That's what Thomas Recipe is for.  Some people have been successful using that.  There is also the taper method which seems to be most common.  I'm not qualified to give you a taper schedule but someone I'm sure would be glad to.  Another way is with suboxone which is the same principle as methodone, but believed to be much safer.  That is what I am doing, however I don't know if you can do this without rehab or an addictions doctor.  I tried all of the other ways and I was not able to go through with it, so it has been a real blessing for me and I'm 2 months clean and feel really good.

Good luck and don't give up the good fight!

Lisa

Welcome Scooter! Check out the Health Pages on the right of the forum. The amino acid protocol can help alot. Heating pad for the legs and aching back. Bananas also help the RLS. Immodium pills help the diarreah and can also take the edge of the other symptoms. If you can get some Clonidine from your doctor, that can help a ton.

Welcome!  I am glad that you joined, not glad that you have this problem.  I don't wish this on anyone.  Just stay glued to the internet and whenever you need to talk post and just read other people's posts.

Hey !!!!!! Well done on the choice to get clean again. The withdrawl is hard, but doable. Look at the thomas recipe. There should be a link to it on the right of your screen.I have used this and it has helped me so much. Keep posting and we will be here for you.Drink lots of fluids.Water and Gateraid are essentials. Also think about what you are going to do to STAY clean. Some kind of aftercare really helps.NA is a great option to check into.
