My younger brother actually did this.  He was in prison for 3 years for prescription fraud.

Sorry, just got a chance to reread my post.
The fact that they have physical proof since you went into a phramacy with a fraudulant script. Dr shopping is also a form of fraud, but what I meant was if the PHARMACY suspected you of "Dr. shopping" and was just getting involved, No one else was involved i.e. Dr.'s hopitals, quick care, police...etc

I just read that and wanted to make sure no one mis understood what I was saying.

Hi fallen angel, In my opinion if you had just been "Dr shopping" I would say that if you took a legal prescription into one of the local pharmacies that you were "red flagged" at, that they would probably just call and verify the script. However, the fact that you committed fraud does make a huge difference on what they might do (how many times you had done it before will also). Once that pharmacist faxes that information it is more than a possibility that they could find out how many fraudulant scripts you have written. I would recommend that you first get yourself into a rehab, detox or at least go to meeting and get off the pills. If you are not ready for that, I would highly suggest that you not go to a pharmacy any where near you area or a pharmacy that has any connections to the ones that you have used in the past. At this point though I would not panic, it is likely that you were just "red flagged".  There are a great deal of health care providers out there that are willing to give you that one chance to get yourself strait. They'll "red flag" you to deter you from this type of behavior in the future, so use take full advantage of it. It may not be, but I would be getting myself clean either way. Everyone here will be here to help you through this. It's a tough fight, but well worth it. You can do this, one day at a time.
Peace,
Gypsy

When you are "tagged" or put on a "hot list" pharmacies do this when they see patients getting the same prescriptions from different docs and at different pharmacies and if you do not use insurance they usually do not know. Chains like Longs and Walgreens can always see your history as all of their computers are connected. What this is, is different, you CAN go to jail if you don't want that don't say anything to anyone without your attorney. My mother is a medical attorney just trust me. Being that you have only one misdemeanor charge against you (hopefully a juvenile record) then IF these pharmacies decide to press charges against you, firstthey will have to gather enough proof to charge you and that's on them unless you tell them. Judges are often very understanding (if it even gets to this point) and will often times order a rehab program which is what you want anyway so you can get the help you need.

By faxing all other pharmacies in the area this is often just "hotlisting" you so they will be on the lookout for you trying to fill prescriptions for narcotics like hydrocodone (vicodin, norco etc.). When you do bring a script to be filled the next time they will often just call the doctor to verify that the doc prescribed it that day in that amount. This is all they will do if they "hotlisted you" So you should try not to get too ahead of yourself just yet.

you may want to type in state prescription laws and learn about things like pdmp. in my state and many others it has nothing to do with using insur or what pharmecy you use,,its a state monitering system

There will be two charges:

1. Illegally obtaining a controlled substance by fraud.......
2. Possession of an illegal controlled substance....

You said the  Pharmacist said he was going to fax the script to all local phamacies if thats all he does your good.......until a Pharmacist calls the police then a detective will investigate and part of that investigation will be
contacting you.........

Yes your an addict, if I were you I would go into an inpatient detox for a few weeks and try to help your addict first then deal with the courts......

You need to stop using period.......

I got arrested when I lived in North Carolina for forging prescriptions.  They called it "obtaining a controlled substance by means of fraud."  I pled guilty to a lesser charge and got a year probation.

Now I am in trouble here in New York.  I went to three differant doctors and every ER on Long Island to get the pills.  The Department of Health faxed a letter to all my doctors with a list of all the prescriptions I got over the last six months.

The doctor showed me the letter on Thursday when I went to get more pills.  Of course he didn't give me any thus I began my detox.  I am not in any legal trouble that I know of but who knows what will become of this.

Each state is differant.  Good luck.

I was kicking aroung in my mind to as you to go back to the pharmacy and after telling him everything, asking him if there was anything you could do, that you don't want a record, that you need help?  That was the first thing.

The other might be to go to a chemical dependancy program and come clean with them asking them to help you get sober and help you clear the wreckage of your past.

There are other options, I'm sure.  Please keep asking here and maybe go to an N.A. meeting and ask a few people there.
