Help with alchole detox

I have been drinking 1-2 leaters of vodka a day for i dont know how long, at least a month. Was drinking less before that for a long time, at least a pint to a pint and a half. I tried going cold turkey but after 12 hours of dry heaving in the tolit and not being able to hold down anything for more then ten mins i got more to relaive the pain and stop it.

Heard about tapering and been doing that, just taking a shot or two when the pain gets too bad. Does anyone know if this works cause i know you can die from alhole withdral and im worried cause i cant stop the dt s and i dont know if im slowly killing myself

. Hands arems legs and feet are half numb, eyes feel too big for my head. Its sore when i slide my hand up my leg and even hair. I dont know if im getting better or worse and dont know any over the counter stuff that can help with the pain. And id rather die then go threw all the nausia again or go to the hospital.

Hi there Will. I know all too well the hell of alcohol detox. I have been through it several times. Not only is it very unpleasant, it can be downright dangerous. I am really not sure about the effectiveness of tapering down your alcohol intake. (I haven't heard of many folks doing this, and I know it's not the standard treatment.) Generally it is advised to go through detox inpatient, either at the hospital, or a medical detox facility. Often times, Benzos such as  Valium are used to help with the agitation, anxiety, and increased risk of seizures. You also will need IV fluids to help keep you hydrated, and keep your electrolytes from getting dangerously low. I know all of this is scary, and you probably want to try to do this on your own. I beg of you to please at least talk to your primary care doctor. Going to the ER would probably be your best bet at this point. There is a safe way through this, and there is a life without the shackles of alcohol. Keep posting and keep us updated on how you are doing. We are here for you.Good luck to you, and please take care of yourself.

Years ago I was at the 2 qt a day Jim Beam level. My AA friends decided to take me to a medical detox. A nurse was at my side for the first two days, and a week later the AA gang picked me up and took me to a meeting. They insisted on me going daily and would not take no for an answer.
Unfortunately that was not my last rodeo, but DR care is essential for heavy alcohol detox.

I've met quite a few people at my AA meetings who initially hospital detoxed in 2-3 days under the expert care of the ER doctors. They won't turn you down. You can do this. They hook up IVs in the ER and safety take you down. That's when staying sober becomes the next project for you. But that's a bridge for you to cross in the very near future. I hope you take the advice of all of the above posters and do this safely. Keep in touch with us. We all stay clean and sober together on this site. We'll support you thru this.

Hey there and welcome!  I just wanted to jump in and show some support.  Yes, the vodka just keeps calling out, doesn't it?  I would recommend u talking to a Dr about giving you something to help get you thru the WD's. As my friends stated, we are not allowed to give tapering advice, while I have heard that you can taper down from alcohol I am not strong enough to taper.  If I have it, I drink it...kind of like pills.  You are welcome to search for alcohol tapers as I have seen plenty of advice on-line outside of this forum, however this is going down a very slippery slope.  Call your Dr and let them help.  You are not the first, nor the last to ask for help.  You are owning up to it by calling them.
This is a battle for your life, so make sure you reach out.  You need support to help you get thru not only the WD's, but the mental cravings after the physical. Stay close to this forum for support, but also seek out support there at home thru church, AA, or counseling.
God bless you and I wish you the very best!

I don't have any advice because I'm neither educated or experienced on the matter. But I will pray for you and follow your story in hopes to see you've become healthier. Bless you in your recovery. I'm excited for you that you've made the choice to better your life. Stay strong friend! !

I agree with spirder6..You should be talking with a DR..They will give you a light Benzo to help so you do not have any Seizures. You need Support when it comes to working on staying clean..Hit some AA and they sure will take you under their wing. Make sure YOU are drinking LOTS of water..Alcohol is one of the worst for dehydration. If you can Eat very Healthy and take some good vit/min this will help you bounce back quicker. You will have to change many things like not walking down the liquor isle at the store..Staying away from others that Drink..No more going around any of this..This is a Disease and it can be arrested but never cured, so you have to have Support to continue a sober life. I wish you the best. Go to the DR and have him help you too!!!
Bless

Hi there friend and welcome.  It sounds like you're having a hard time of it and boy that's quite the hollow leg.  We are not allowed to give specific tapering advice here but I am able to say please don't try and c/t yourself off this much alcohol.  This could be extremely dangerous.  I would say if you are able, you should be under physicians care to do this. Keep hydrated.  I haven't had to go through what you're going through but I am an alcoholic too, just non-practicing for many years.  Hang tight someone with more  experience with this detox should be by soon to give support and guidance.  All I can say friend is get your butt to hospital ASAP, then take it from there.  Blessed prayers of hope and strength friend. Hugs
