No longer needed, Asignment cancelled

I'm 39 living with Cirrhosis. Diagnosed to be at the begining of the final stage (C). Last week I went through a staffing agency to get work. I have not really worked since my diagnosis March 22 2010. I have been really feeling the effects of HE exspecially with confusion and loss of balance. Lots of other signs although my ammonia level was only 1 point high last time i was tested. I will be seeing my doctor this coming week for new test results. Anyway I got this job I thought it wa going to be great. I was the executive administrative assistant to the vice president of engineering. <-- Prior to that i was Assistant Chief Engineer for a television station. On my first day of work i met with my new boss and he told me he loved my resume and i would only be admin for a short while and once he found someone else for that postition he wanted me to work side by side with him on projects that would be coming up since they just bought a 260million dollar co. and will be merging the two of them. I have been training for 5 days and been having a hard time remembering things that i had just completed like to hours earlier. The trainer over the past 5 days noticed this behavior so i felt obligated to tell her that i have a disease and i just have a hard time remembering. I told her i have a DR. appt. mnday and they will adjust my medication accordingly. today HR calls for me and : job assignment cancelled!

there is a lot of discrimination in the job world towards alcoholics/addicts...if u told them it was another medical condition the same thing might have happened....sorry this happened to you!:(

wow... this is a wake up call... im 29... I drank real heavy for the past 2 years since my dad passed... when I say heavy I mean about a liter of hard liquor every 3-4 days... I spent the last 6 months off the juice to lower my tolerance... for my own sake and cause my daughter who's now 5 was starting to ask some hard questions... I recently had a few at a super bowl party and again this past weekend with my wife... just a couple of beers... nothing serious... doing good with moderation so far... dont feel cravings to drink so thats good.... but I should probably go get my liver checked out before I do any more damage.... I always knew I was doing damage but the thought of Cirrhosisat 39 scares the hell outta me....

Hello there and sorry your job. I have thought about what u just went through and was wondering if u had thought about bringing a formal complaint or even a lawsuit againt the company. As far as i know, ur case falls under discrimination, which is a violation the american with disabilities (which any drug or alcohol addict falls under)
I know it might not bring ur job back but at least, u will expose the truth about this company and if anything, embarrass its executives and all these big shots who think they can get away with anything. Just a thought. Anyway, take good care of urself and hoPing u will find something soon. Chances are, this job would have become a real nightmare...

Sorry. You must take steps to learn what it will take for you to overcome this symptom. Take notes, keep a palm pilot, sticky notes. What ever it takes you are going to have to invest in the process. Good luck. Next time fake it until you make it.
