Sophie, I sure understand about being scared. I have cirrhosis and as you can imagine they have put me through a lot of testing. I have had the scope (endoscopy) done three times and it is no big deal at all. They put you under like in a sleep stage and it only takes about 15 minutes. I have never seen the scope and I don't want too! ha ha There is no pain or memory of having it don at all. The last time I went I was really tired anyways and I knew I would get a good nap so I was ready to go. Just give me the stuff!

They need to see what is going on before it gets worse. They need to rule out the possibility of an ulcer. Treatment for that can also be as simple as pills so don't be scared get it looked at right away so you can get on with enjoying your life. Oh and btw, I love food too! he he

Take good care of you because nobody else can.

My stomach does burn pretty badly quite often and i did check it up online and it said something about gastritis..i also get extremely bad pain around my rib area causing me sometimes to be sick and find it hard to catch my breath its that painful..i did go to the doctor after noticing my stool was black thinking it was some sort of internal bleeding and told them everything and all they did was give me tablets to take for 3 weeks to increase my appetite and said if it didnt work to come back for a scope because there was something serious wrong..the tablets made me even more sick so after a week i just quit taking them and didn't go back to the doctor..its pretty clear there's something wrong with me but i guess im just pretty scared on what they'll find so keep putting it off..im only 18 just gunna need to get it sorted scared or not..

Sophie is it possible you are having a problem with acid reflux or GERD? If you are not eating right and getting the nutrients your body needs you will find that you are tired all the time with no energy. Dizziness and weight loss may occur also.

GERD is very common amongst alcoholics since the alcohol and smoking causes the sphincter at the bottom of the esophagus to relax which in turn allows stomach acid to come up causing pain, nausea and vomiting. Very effective medication can be prescribed or purchased over the counter. Such as Nexium, Prilosec and Pepcid. It is much more costly to purchase over the counter than to have a doctor prescribe the medication. There are generics available too that work very well. Also your doctor can assist with the dosage depending on the severity of your condition.

Diagnosis can be made with a simple and safe procedure called an endoscopy. In many cases medication for this is prescribed on the symptoms alone and the procedure isn't necessary. If your doctor is aware of your past alcoholism he/she may agree this is the case.

Congratulations on your sobriety but you should not be feeling worse, At this point you should be feeling great! Good luck to you and I hope you get it worked out. Take care.

I too was an alcoholic i was that bad i went from a size 14 - 16 down to a size 6 in a matter of a few months..they say if you stop drinking your body will repair itself but i must have done a lot of damage because my body hasnt recovered over a year on..i never feel hungry i can barely eat even though i love food and anytime i do i always feel extremely sick and thats even if i just have 1 sandwich or even just a drink of fizzy juice..i constantly have no energy and feel dizzy all the time and my bowl movements id be lucky to go twice a week..i believe its a myth that your body repairs itself i think the damage you do to your body is for life..hope this helped..

I assume you mean health and that would depend on the circumstance and how serious the damage was. I would love to help with your question but you must first explain more.
