Hello,
Yes allergy tests test for seasonal allergies or hay fever also. Diagnosis is done by skin testing. A diluted extract of each kind of allergen is applied to a scratch or puncture made on your arm or back or injected under your skin. With a positive reaction, a small, raised, reddened area with a surrounding flush (called a wheal and flare) will appear at the test site. Confirmatory tests is by blood tests (RAST).
Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.Kind regards.
Thank you very much,
I was not sure if I could use benadryl for this or not, but I tried it today, and it helped alot to ease the itching and my eyes weren't as red as they were. When going for an allergy test, do they test for seasonal allergies also? or is it only for food?
Hello,
One of the reasons for blood shot itchy eyes can be seasonal allergies or hay fever.Even allergies due to contact dermatitis with the eye makeup can cause such symptoms. It can also be due to blepahritis or eye infections.
You can take OTC antihistaminics like benadryl or Claritin. Eye drop versions of cromolyn sodium and antihistamines are available for itchy, bloodshot eyes and these can also be tried. Also maintain hygiene and avoid rubbing the eyes. You can wash your eyes with fresh water and put cool compresses over the eyes.If the symptoms persist then pls get the other medical conditions ruled out.
I hope that helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.Kind regards.
