Anal Pain

Dear Doc,

I am a 53 years married woman.

Two days ago while sleeping at night, I was awakened by a severe penetrating pain inside my anus which continued for about 15 mins.  Again today, there is a slight mild pain in the same place which is there as I can feel it.

About a year or so back, I had experienced this same pain and didnt think much of it as it never reoccured again.

Can you please tell me why this is happening and what should I do about it.  Is it harmful ?

Your views and suggestions on this will be most appreciated.

Thank you and God bless.

I've never known what causes spasms.  A call to your doctor might be enlightening.

To repeat myself..heh...I have known several women who said they have them, including my sister.  And we are all well.  Hopefully, just one of those things that are an annoyance, but not serious.

Hello and thank you very much for responding to my post.  Glad to know that it may be spasms - but wonder what triggers it !!

God bless and best wishes to you.

Hi there,

I am not a doctor or medical expert.  I am an anal cancer survivor, so may be able to help.

You are describing what I believe doctors refer to as spasms.  My sister and I both have them off and on.  In my case, they had nothing whatever to do with anal cancer.

It is my belief these are annoying and painful...but short lived...and harmless.

To be sure, of course, check with your doctor.

Best wishes...
