8 yr old waking multiple times a night manic and anxious

My daughter has always been a good sleeper.  And I can usually recognize when she's "playing me" and trying to get away with something.  But she was sick 4 nights ago and was up on and off all night, then napped a bit the next day.  That night she was up 4 times during the night (9:30, 11, 1 and 4:30).  Each time she would burst out of her room, yelling for me to help her, or go with her, or that something was wrong.  She'd run back and forth in the hallway.  I don't think it's night terrors since she seems to be aware of me and we talk and she answers questions.  However, she is definitely disoriented and not quite in her right mind.  She mixes up the rooms, thinking my son's room is hers.  She thinks someone is in the house.  She thinks she's left her blanket in another room.  She even thought she pooped on the floor.  These episodes have now happened 3 nights in a row varying from 1/2 hour in between, to several hours.  And if I remember correctly, she sleeps best the last part of the night (closest to morning), without any of these episodes.  The pediatrician doesn't have any immediate answers or suggestions.  We always have the same bed time routine and other than being sick (and now very tired!), we haven't changed anything.  Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated for what this might be and how to help her stay asleep.  Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the information!  I've spoken to our pediatrician and she (and her partners) seem a little confused by this.  The more I read, the more I think it might be a mild version of night terrors, many multiple times a night, with talking and sleepwalking (or running in my daughters case).  I'll keep looking for more info on night terrors.  Thanks again.
