Anguish or Depression? Loss of Loved One

I lost a loved one about a week ago and I have a feeling I'd describe as COPD, and elephant sitting on my chest.  I wonder if it is Depression, or Anguish .. same thing?

I have been taking 50 mg of Trazadon before bed, that was for the anguish from the loss of a dog on December 3, my loss of a week ago was of a human being  -- maybe I need something more powerful.  I will attend a Bereavement group session on Thursday, 1 1/2 hours in the evening, offered by the Hospital Support Services.

Yes, friends, family and time... but what in the meantime?

Drugs don't treat grieving.  You have to go through it to move forward, not silence the feelings with drugs.  This isn't depression, it's grieving.  It's okay, it will pass, but if you suppress it, it might not.

Thanks to both, I think the drug may help me sleep, some use it specifically for that purpose.

I will attend a group bereavement session on Thursday.
