Just keep repeating that your safe and secure, your panicking cause your thinking something bad is gona happen.  Your feeling all these horrible and terrifying body sensations and thats keeping you panicking cause your thinking the worse.

Just try to think of something calming and get another worker to bring you a cup of sweet tea, this will bring your sugar levels up if they are a little low.

The psychiatrist will listen to you to determine the best medication for you, but a therapist or counselor is the one you wan't to see regularly to work on your issues. getting the right meds is definately the right first step! Get a therapy appointment set up ASAP so you have a professional to talk to on a regular basis. Studchick

so why am i going to the psychiatrist? isnt she supposed to be the one to help me through this? to help me deal with the anxiety and my problems. I called and her asked if we could move the appt up bc the original appt was like 3 weeks away from the event and i need her help NOW in dealing with this event in my life. When i called she just wanted to make sure i was journalling and taking my meds and she said that if my meds were putting me to sleep then i should just go ahead and sleep for now. I just want someone to sit down and talk to me and explain to me what to do in my personal life and help me do it and make sure i'm on whatever i need to be on to function normally.

That was extremely rude, and uncaring for your doctor to tell you that!  You will get much better help and results from seeing the psychiatrist, and he will be able to refer you to a therapist and advise you on medication as well.  You will be fine, and stay with us for support.  Take care...

Yeah that does sound a bit rude, seeing the psychiatrist today will help you im sure, he/she will be able to refer you to a therapist and prescibe med's, a psychiatrist wont sit and do therapy with you, they are there to assess your mental state.  I do think its a brill idea to ask for CBT, he/she will know what that means and you can ask for a deeper explanation and see if its for you.  The most traditional therapy is standard talk therapy but that wont help you through the anxiety attacks.

Anyway chat soon and take good care of yourself ok, as i said pm me if you need to.  xxx

usually, the attacks aren't this bad. usually i can take a half dose of the ativan and come down. but i had to take a full dose this morning and i just want to pass out and sleep but i'm still shaky. I tried to talk to the dr about it friday and they said that if my attacks were THAT bad and i didnt want to take the ativan then i should just check myself into a mental health facility. which i thought was rather rude. Im hoping the psychiatrist will have something different to say today about it. Im new to all this and i know i'm not crazy. I know i'm going through a really hard time in my life and a very emotional one. I just need support and help.

Yeah CBT is cognitive behavioural therapy...... ask for it when you see the pyschiatrist today.  A therapist will be able to teach you all you need to know.

Hope my advice and support has been of help to you and your feeling a bit better.  Although my strongest advice would be to go see ur PC doc to get a refferal to a therapist.  CBT is worth its weight in gold.

You're right to avoid the tea, all caffeine which only makes anxiety worse.  If this only happens in the mornings then it may be related to your job, or your fear of losing control while at work. What you're experiencing is the the "fight or flight" mode that we get when in danger, but it's coming at the wrong time.  This floods your body with adrenaline but it has nothing to work on and results in a a panic attack.  So it is a normal response just coming at the wrong time.  Walking is good for adrenaline, anything physical, but since you are at work maybe take a walk to the restroom, get your mind on to other things.  The worst thing you can do is nothing. You need to talk yourself down, but distraction has been my best tool. I would contact your doctor about the Ativan and it's effects on you during this time.  I hope you're feeling better, just do whatever you can to get your mind on other things at work.

CBT? im seeing the psychiatrist today for the first time at 1. I've never done this, but apparently i'm going to help learn how to deal with anxiety and the heartbreak i've recently been through. Which fuels all of my fears and fearful throughts during an attack.

As for how to relax... i have suggested a couple of relaxation exercises, which will help, you dont have to lay down you can do them at your desk, all it takes it 5 mins, plus if you have an mp3 you can download a meditation cd to your mp3 and when feeling anxious just take 5 mins out and listen to it at your desk.  Also maybe take in a flask of chamomile with you to work with some sugary treats for an energy boost.

Do you have any chamomile tea then or can someone go get some for you?

Plus in the mornings it is said that the serotoion level is much lower, i also think it's because you go all night without food or drink an your sugar levels are lowest so this all has an effect on our mood.

Maybe you need to think about having therapy, like CBT, this will help you to control your intrusive thoughts and manage the anxiety.

i can't do tea, i can't have caffiene. i dont know how to relax. its my thougths that drive alot of this i think. They just build and get more and more paniced and more and more fearful. and its hard to come down from that. even if and when my body relaxes, my mind is still stuck dealing with those thoughts that were conjured up.

Thats fantastic that your breathing is back to normal, your shaking is just the effects of the adrenaline.... it wil not hurt you.  As i suggested have a cup of warm sweet tea and sit quietly for a while to relax and maybe have something to eat, and you should begin to feel alot better.

No your not having a seizure, its just your muscles are so tense....... just kee trying to do the breathing exercise..... or another method is find a brown paper bag if you have one and place it over your nose and moth and breath into this, this will slow your breathing and bring it back to normal.... If you dont have one place your ands over your mouth and breath into your hands. this will bring your system back to normal.

im doing this in small sections so you get the messages sooner than me writing it all at once.

Gently shake your limbs to get the blood flow going and encourage it back to your hands, feet.  Plus do you have a relaxation cd or meditation cd?

If not lay on the bed and start by doing the breathing exercise and while doing this clench each set of mucles as follows  start with ur feet, clench your toes and hold them for a count of 4 then relax and then your calf muscles, then your thigh muscles, then your buttocks then back, arms and hands... wrok your way up to your face muscles and while doing this keep repeating the calming thoughts in your head.... or say them out loud if this helps.

i can't get a steady breath is coming in and out as my shaking does. Why wont the racing thoughts stop? does the anxiety cause an andrelaine rush? i can't stop the muscle tension and spasms. i feel like i'm having a partial seizure.

You might want to send me a message if you want. I lead on the thyroid board and I am checking that out now. I may not jump back here right away if you feel I could give you some thoughts.
