Acute anxiety & depression related to alcohol

Have always had anxiety issues & run in family. Believe for many years I self medicated with acohol until recently. Anyway, quit cold-turkey 2-months ago & have severe mood swings with anxiety [shaky/nervous] and depressed of & on.

I believe my body is adjusting to being alcohol free for first time in many years and it is mostly pshycological. I can say this is simply no fun at all.
Doctor put me on Buspar & had to quit taking as made me feel even worse. Xanax makes me sleeply, but following morning even more anxious. I'm welcome to ANY suggestions at this point. Had a meeting with my wife & a financial advisor this morning & had to bail last minute with an excuse - I simply could not sit still in an enclosed room with several people. This stinks!!

Alcohol is a drug which depresses the central nervous system so it's not just psychological when you quit the habit.    There are physical withdrawals as well which entraps people into alcoholism.      It sounds like your nervous system is the culprit as your brain and body attempt to get back to its normal old self.
