Can I be tested for vitamin deficancies?

I have been reading online about the lack of different vitamins and minerals that could cause anxiety. I spiraled into anxiety attacks everyday a few months ago. I have always had anxiety but maintained it myself. I am curious if these huge ongoing attacks could be due to lack of vitamins. I am a mom of two who gets little sleep and eats on  the run. I have been dieting and avoiding milk due to stomach issues. Is vitamin deficiency something my regular doctor could test for? I would like to know before I just start taking things recommended on the internet. Any help would be welcome!

That is a lot of claims. Can you provide some links to your claims?

Specifically Vitamin D, not really a vitamin, B-12, Niacin, V-C.  All of these vitamins have improved my body & mind. No one has died from "seemingly" large doses of vitamins in 23+ years according to federal & state records. Do your research. Plenty of facts to support vitamins restore mental & physical health, but cannot overcome continual dosing of toxins via manufactured foods, poor eating habits, drugs, alcohol. Tightness in chest, depression, leg cramps, muscle spasms, anxiety, general negative outlook all have dissipated by adding.  Energy, mental clarity and positive mental outlook on life has returned. There are alternatives to drugs, but one has to seek and find & be willing to hang in there until the changes occur. Sometimes quickly, but can be slow depending on how long one has been on medication & how deficient the body is for a certain vitamin or mineral. Not rocket science, just common sense. We evolved via real food, not drugs. Real food is not difficult to find if one looks for it.

What do you do for your anxiety? I have had it for pretty much my entire life, but never this bad. I actually went to a doctor to ask for help and meds, which I never thought I would get the courage to do. I am on xanax and citolopram. The cita is into week two and I feel worse some days. The xanax sometimes barely takes the edge off. I am afraid of becoming dependant. I miss just being   a little anxious over certain things. Now it feels like, the monster and I are joined at the hip. I am trying to type my way through and attack that started around four thirty this morning....it's now six thirty.

I am hesitant to take vitamins to try to balance myself out without know if I need balancing. I don't want to be a pill popper all day. But that includes the real meds for anxiety. If I could get rid of the rapid heart beat, especially waking at night with it, I think I could start to get some rest and feel better. I am having a hard time coping and balancing right now. Any advise is appreciated.

My response was pretty much in line with what you're saying, so why the pissy retort?

In Novermber I had 73 blood tests done with all the vitamins also - everything perfect and still a whacked nervous system.

I have been around this anxiety monster for decades and never seen anyone get well with suppliments - besides they are not vitamins they are chemicals

Sounds to me like you're a bit of a stress monster............mother, employee, lack of sleep, lousy eating habits, anxiety attacks, dieting, avoiding calcium rich foods not due to lactose intolerance, AND you've been reading all that "stuff" on the net about the vitamins they claim you should be taking.

To answer your question, yes, your GP can test for vitamin deficiencies. I have also heard that some vitamins could be at the root of anxiety, but so far, I haven't seen any science to back that claim up.

But before he/she does that, I think it would be far wiser to have a really complete physical done with blood work that includes checking your thyroid. You also need to have a really honest heart to heart discussion with your doctor about your lifestyle. I'm betting I won't be the only one who tells you you need to slow down, get rid of some stress, take care of yourself.

It's entirely possible you ARE lacking in some vitamin or another. Most of us are, and it would be good to know so we could improve our diets. But your symptoms can't all be expalained away by a vitamin deficiency. Your lifestyle is probably more to blame than the carrots you don't eat.
Being stressed out much of the time will use up our bodies supply of the good stuff which leaves us tired, anxious, cranky, not sleeping well.....on and on.  A few simple changes in lifestyle would probably work wonders that vitamins never will.

Please don't start loading up on what the "vitamin sites" say you should be taking. I promise if you do, you will be out one hell of a lot of money, you'll be popping pills all day long and you won't feel one iota better. Not only that, but if you are told to take "mega" doses, that can cause very, very serious physical problems and many vitamin and herbal combinations can be dangerous, even lethal.
Consult your doctor before you do anything.
Peace
