Welbutrin and anxiety

My doctor prescribed a trial of Welbutrin for my GAD and panic disorder.  I was nervous about starting but took my first pill today.  now, from what I'm reading, it could make my anxiety much worse.  Has anyone had success treating their panic disorder and/or GAD with Welbutrin alone?

I had insomnia too because I was taking it at night.  My prescription bottle did not say wehen to take it.  My dose is an extended release dose; 300 mg that release over a 24 hour period.  Since it is a stimulant, it is best to take it as far away from bed time as you can.  I take mine at 5:00 a.m. and I really noticed a difference in my sleeping.  Although I will tell you that I take 1 mg of klonopin to sleep at night.  I had to do this even before I went on the Wellbutrin.  But a Wellbutrin at night would counter affect the Klonopin and I would be up at 1:00...thus the switch to the am.  I hope you are feeling better!

Thank you , that is reassuring.  I had waves of mini-panic hit me the first few hours after my first pill, I coped ok.  Then, I wasn't able to go to sleep till 4 a.m.!  I am a heavy sleeper so I'm assuming it was the med.  I'm on 1 per day, 150 SR.  I do have some .25 xanax that i will probably need to get me through the initial weeks.  Glad to know it started working for you.  I will take it earlier today.  Thanks again!

Hello there.  I was on Wellbutrin 150 XR for about a year.  Was bumped up to 300 XR about 6 weeks ago.  I have to say that in the beginning I thought the same as you.  I was jittery for hours and had this unquenchable thirst.  I had to sometimes take .25 Klonopin to take the edge off.  But I have to say that after about 4 weeks (and I know that seems like an eternity) I feel like myself again.  The jitteryness went away and the unquenchable thirst as well.  I was taking it initially at night and then switched to the morning...much better that way.  Could your doc perhaps prescribe you some Klonopin for the particularly bad days?  A .25 dose is doable during the day.  It just takes that edge off the anxiety while leaving you able to work, etc.  When I had to go higher, I was looking for a couch to lay on during the day.

So my advice is to stick with it for about 4 weeks and see if you feel better.  I was convinced it was not going to work but it did.

I hope you feel better soon.

You did not mention what does you are on...is it 150 XR or 300 XR?
