I feel like I can't walk?

I think this is psychological as it only seems to happen in public, but I get this feeling that my legs are tensing up - so much so that sometimes they go weak or just frieze.

It is inconveniant and I try to avoid walking on busy streets. When it happens i physically cannot walk, if I try I just jar and almost fall over, I have to stop and pretend to look for something in my bag.
I have other habits I believe to be nervous habits - swallowing uncontrollably in quiet places, twitching or flinching, and laughing uncontrollably in conversation.
I really want to work out how I can resolve problems such as there at the moment.

Has anyone else experienced this, is it likely caused by anxiety?

thank you very much, for this and your other comment. I think your right, I am self conscious. I am also in the process of assessment for anxiety, so hopefully these problems will resolve themselves when I have figured out exactly why I get into such a state. I hope your anxiety improves.

Anxiety can do some strange things, it is a possibility that you suffer from anxiety, symptoms are different for each individual and it sounds like you have a serious case of it.   you may also be suffering from a strong case of self conciousness, and anxiety together, feeling that you may stumble fall or just embarass yourself in public, you should see a psychologist and definately get something for the anxiety, if you don't like meds, try to sip some hot chamomile tea before you go out or have a shot of brandy to relax your muscles, I'm not a doc, but also  a sufferer of anxiety, hope this helps.
