Are thoughts that u can't seem to control a symptom of high anxiety or another mental disorder.  i do have social anxiety and somewhat daily panic attacks for about 2 years. but the last couple of weeks, i cant seem to get my brain to slow down. im havin alot of negative thoughts that i cant stop or even control at all and just really out there "why the hell did i just think that". Is trying to cope with this stress for so long on my own  taken its toll??? but could this be ADD with anxiety???
or do i even need anti psycodics???
Or do u think lexapro with fix this?

First of all, this thread is a few months old...try looking at the date before posting....in case you don't get a reply.

Secondly...Im sorry you had a bad experience, but remember it was YOUR bad experience.  Please do not post things like "Do NOT take Lexapro"...or "stay away from ADs!".  It simply isn't fair to people who haven't been allowed to have their OWN experiences, which may be VERY different from yours.  Lexapro has been a miracle drug for me, and for many others.

So, bear that in mind when posting...be clear that what you're posting about is YOUR opinion and YOUR experience, and in all fairness....acknowledge that not everyone ends up with the kind of severe adverse effects like you had, not to mention the terribly tragic situation with your brother.  It's probably impossible for your to remain open-minded and fair looking at the topic from both sides due to that history.  Just give it some thought.

People with anxiety who are posting/reading here are already nervous and vulnerable enough, that they could easily be frightened away from something that may have been "their" fix.  Maybe someone like your brother would be immensely helped and a tragedy avoided b/c of Lexapro, or another AD...but it would be unfortunate if they didn't get to see what it could do for them b/c of the "horror stories".

And, I'm not trying to say not to share your experiences either...its important...just be sure to specify that this was YOUR history with the med...and please do not make broad statements knocking something.

PLEASE do not take Lexapro if you haven't already. I agree with what bosnianworrier said & you may not have the symptoms I had but when I took it in 2004 I was like you describe. I thought I was in bad shape before, no, on Lexapro I was much worse I had scary vivid dreams & was waking myself up by talking outloud & that too was scary for me, never done that before. Anyway I lost ALL feelings for everything my kids, my husband, myself & life. I tried to kill myself I really wanted to die, it was not my time, it was not an attention getter & was not suicidal before. Also it is on the list of anti-depressents that cause some people to become suicidal, they all might be by now. Unfortunately for me all this news did not come out until 7 mos. after I took it, I could have been in on big class action lawsuit but never did. And you talked about thoughts you could not control wanting too die & not caring about atg. or aby. were severe thoughts I could not control because of lex.

Anti-dep. are dangerous, maybe not all but I have not heard of any safe ones. I am depressed, anxiety, social also because my health is bad after a car acci. in '06, I hardly leave the house. About the ADD maybe but I know racing thoughts are a symptom of depr. I deal with that also but I refuse to take an anti-depr. again because I know if I get like that again I want be able to snap myself out of that frame of mind. They mess with the chem. in your brain & while they are already changed with depre. I don't want any manmade help to fix them! I am slowly but surely pulling myself out of this & I will just say it I hate anti-depr. a doctor pres. some to my 16 yr. old brother in '91 & he was not suicidal before this, he succeded in killing himself, I was 12 yrs. old he was my best friend & I will never get over it. I realize they help some people but the problem is you don't know if they will help you or hurt you. I was numb, anyway there effects stay in you several wks. after you stop taking them also. I just hope this helps anyone who reads this to really consider taking them I know I am not a doctor & they prescribe them all the time but I have lived the conc. they can have with a funeral & almost my own.

Always do what you think is best for you even if a doc. thinks you should take them if you can't pull yourself out of dep. maybe you should try them but there not for me.

Unwanted negative thoughts are often a symptom of anxiety. They can be really disturbing and scary too. I doubt you need antipsychotics and I don't know if you have ADD, OCD or if lexapro will help you.

Only your doctor can give you the best answer.
