Talking too much when anxious

I always think I will try to talk as less as possible but when I get in between people I end up talking too much. I get excited and because I want to join in a conversation I end up saying something stupid or tell everybody everything that's going on in my life!! I'm from another country and find it a bit difficult to fit in and in trying to make friends and impress people I end up sitting alone. People think I'm boring and avoid me. I've ended up having no friends and dread going out now to any work outings or if I see anyone I know. What can I do to stop this? Thanks.

I've heard of Cognitive Therapy. How does it work do you know? I always do the same thing, before I leave the house I say to myself I will try to keep my mouth shut but then when people ask me something I can't shut up!!

i am the same way.  i always talk too much or too fast when nervous.  i have learned over the years to control it to a point.  i have learned to say it in my head and not let it leave my mouth, but sometimes it doesn't work.

i do know that some psych doctors claim it is the 'manic' part of bi polar, but i tend to disagree.  just think it has to do with lack of confidence.

maybe cognitive behavioral therapy would be a faster route in helping you.  i had to teach myself over many years.
