Long time anxiety with lighheadedness

I've had GAD for about 20 years.  It comes and goes.  About two months ago, my anxiety went up and I started feeling lightheaded and unsteady.  Even when sitting at my desk and working on the computer.  This week its been real bad.  In the past, my GP has said it is connected to the anxiety.  I am going to a ENT to have a full ear exam.  My question...should I insist on some other tests with my GP?  Blood work, EKG, a full neurological work up?  I don't want to have unnecessary tests but I don't want to miss something.  Worrying about the lightheaded sensation is increasing my anxiety.  Thanks.

Thank you for the reply.  My GP always says its anxiety.  I will be seeing him next week as a follow-up and I'll mention the stubborn lightheaded stuff.  Sometimes doing a EKG or blood work helps calm down the anxiety.  I guess I'll see what the doctors says next week.

I am currently taking celexa on a daily basis and have xanax which I only use if really necessary.  When I do take xanax, it is only 0.25 mg.  I haven't taken any in almost a month.  I really try to limit the xanax although my anxiety level is quite high right now.  Thank you for the comments and encouragement.

So sorry you are having those sensations. They are no fun, and neither is anxiety.

I do have a question for you.

Do you currently take any meds? Benzos in my case of questioning. The reason I ask is that when I was on ativan, I was going through tolerance withdrawal without knowing, and thought it was just bad anxiety with light headedness and vertigo.

So I was curious if you took a benzo, like ativan, xanax etc.

The good news, anxiety will not last forever. You will get over the hump. :)

I'm no expert, but pretty darn knowledgeable when it comes to anxiety and the physiological aspect of it.

The anxiety could be the main culprit here, one of the main symptoms of it is lightheadedness or dizzyness. Lightheadedness can be attributed to so many things, but if you notice it mainly when you are in anxious scenarios or whenever you feel anxious, than it is no doubt because of anxiety.

If it makes you feel better, than you could do other tests, but if you have no history of health issues and you are healthy in general, non-smoker, fairly fit and eat right then there should be nothing to really worry about.

Worrying about the sensation will cause a minor stress response, which could very well be what it making you lightheaded. It started with the anxiety, when you worry it increases, so it sounds like it is the anxiety.

Just my two cents, hope you feel better. ;-)
