Tapering from klonopin

Hi all. I've been struggling with insomnia/anxiety. I have been taking 1mg klonopin only at night to  help with my sleep anxiety for about 2 months. I don't do it every night about 4 or 5 nights. Some nights I have done .5 mg. Last Friday 6/15 was the last time I did a 1mg. Sat, sun and tues I did .5 mg.  I didn't take one last night now I'm getting headaches. I haven't been able to get in touch with my doctor today that's why I'm hoping for advice. Do I need to taper? I was thinking of maybe doing a .25 tonight and then that's it. I'm seeking cognitive therapy.

Benzos are not a very good sleep remedy, and you're learning one reason why.  Don't know if the cause of your headaches is the benzo or not, but if it is, then yes, if you want to stop taking them and you've been taking it pretty regularly for 2 months you might be having some withdrawal from it.  You can tell in two ways -- don't take any again and see if you still get a headache.  If you do, take one and see if you don't get a headache -- if it's the latter, then yeah, you probably need to taper it down, though given the way you've been using it and the short time of use you should be fine.
