Weird stomach/abdominal shifts?

Hello,

Well, let me start off by saying I definitely have anxiety problems plus I'm a male so I was never pregnant haha, and the main problem I have is this nearly perpetual feeling in my "stomach" that feels like I'm doing something wrong and I'm going to get in trouble, even if I'm just watching T.V. I also smoke marijuana and alot of the time it makes this feeling worse, but every so often when I take a shower while I'm high, I realize that everything is ok. Like, I don't just tell myself that, I know it, and this sounds very strange because it is but then I just breathe more deeply and the hot water helps my stomach relax. Then I feel everything shift in my abdominal area, like things are being squeezed out of my sternum area towards my belly button and theres usually this tight fit feeling in my chest followed by a release, then I can just feel my "belly" fill up (i'm rather skinny and always have been) and I feel so much better and normal really and there's usually some gas release out of one end or both. I notice that everything slowly starts to shift back upwards towards the sternum area and I won't ever notice exactly when it happens but then it will go back to the way it was.i'm twenty years old and I was wondering if this is common, or is this a side effect of anxiety or is this something physical that is causing my anxiety? I've talked to two doctors about this but they both seemed to only half listen and said it was just part of the anxiety. Sorry for the long question and thank you for the help!

Well I hope you are right. It seems like it a physical things though and it might well be a combination. I also get intense burning in my upper abdomen, typically after I drink soda. I used to have such a huge appetite and would hardly even chew my food because I was anticipating the swallowing more then anything, but now even delicious food sometimes doesn't feel right going down. Do you think this can all be from anxiety? The brain is a very powerful thing, absolutely, but I'm worried.

Hey, I sorta know what your talking about.  I get similar feelings, but for me nausia is a huge part of my anxiety, but all the stomach things you mention I have experienced.  And throughout reading many posts on this site and research on the internent and books and stuff...anxiety has A LOT to do with your stomach.  Your brain (where the anxiety is) and your stomach are like brothers.  They are very much connected.  My psychiatrist told me that we actually have brain cells in our stomach, so whenever your stressed or anxious or anything, it will almost ALWAYS effect your stomach in some way.  For me, its mostly nausia.  Some people get bad cramps, some people even get a weird pulse in their stomach.  Its completely normal.  I would definitly count on it being caused by your anxiety.
