What's in a Name?

Because I am a frivolous person with a shallow mind and the attention span of a Mexican Jumping Bean, I thought I would create a questionable diversion which may actually have some interesting results. I refer to our nicnames. Especially for those of you who have selected names with some cryptic or symbolic significane such as "greenlydia" or "TipToe Tulip" or "moonflower," or "nozmeg." Nozmeg?  Then there's "firehazardguy." Fireman? Insurance inspector? Something scary, maybe? And what about BARFER? The mind reels....

My nicname is singularly uninspired: JSGeare. Yawn. Its my name -that's all.

But for the others, how did you select it? What does it mean? Do you use it other places? (not really anyone's business and you don't have to say where). Was it truly a creative effort, or did you just sort of pull it out of the space around you, like "Mrs. Doubtfire?"

I find that I sometimes speculate on what those names mean, and wonder if my guess is anywhere near accurate. And I know that others also have wondered. So -just a note or two: how did you come up with your name? Thanks!

xan......but either the picture (sometimes) or the blue and pink avatar shows the sex, so there isn't much guessing to do. Too bad, could have been fun. Maybe we can guess ages! You may know of microfische due to your research, as some material is only available on that medium, but I bet a buck it was never the ONLY way you could do research! Answer me this: How many pages could you mimeograph at one time? And you COULD get anything you wanted at Alice's Resturant..........'ceptin' ___________?

Mike..........I LOVE the name of your daughter! It's really beautiful, as is she, no doubt! I bet you get some winks when you drive your wife's car! As the proud mom of a gay son, do yourself a favor and wink back! They won't hurt you and who can't use a wink irregardless of who it's from? I'm winking at you now!   :)

wolfie...........I'm givin' her all she's got, Captn'...............................

Greenlydia and everyone else who admits to reading comic books.

Let the howlin' commence - along with the profound discussions of "Archieism" and the postmodern, pre-industrial ramifications of aforementioned "Archieism".  Or role play Betty and Veronica or even Mr. Weatherbee and Ms Grundy.  GAK!!!!  How pretentious that sounds.  Howlin' sounds much better.  What would Spock say.  Probably, "Fascinating, illogical but fascinating".   Bones would probably have something to say too but nobody ever listened to him.

Achieism vs Spockism, most intreaguing .... make it so

Pretty simple here too - my wife's name is Michelle (Shelly for short) and anything that belongs to her is "Shelz" :) My name is Mike, I belong to her, so...shelzmike!

As an aside if that is just not sickening enough - the license plate on my car is I GOT HER and on hers is 1GOT HIM - looks sort of funny when we drive each others car though!

Mike

And to greenlydia - my 1 year old daughter's name is Lydia...Lydia Aryelle to be exact (and no it is not Ariel, like the little mermaid, the empahsis is on the "e" sound in the middle - phonetically it is Air-E-ell. (it sounds sort of like saying ariel in french or something.) :)

I know....xanweaner does sound like a guy...and I like that idea- try to guess the sex and you can't go on their profile to sneak a peek...

I know Arlo Guthrie very well - ..."you can get anything you like, from Alice's Restaaurant...."...he was a great folk singer. Very groovy.....
(hehe)

And, I've used microfiche when doing research on a book about Kent State...
See....you're assuming my age......but I'll never tell.....
I like to remain as anonymous as possible....

YOU'RE A WOMAN! That is so weird how we assume, for no discernable reason I can think of, the sex of someone by a username. I have "assigned" a sex to any number of folks on this forum and I'm probably 99.9% wrong!
That might be another fun little thread...........trying to guess the sex of folks by their username and why we think it's one or the other. Hmmmmmmmmm
As for the singer who died, no, he was most definately not a rock musician. You gave your age away by NOT picking up on the fact I related his music to the style of Arlo Guthrie! If you go to your local library and hook into the microfiche, you can look him up. But I guess I'd have to explain "microfiche" to you as well.........
I think I need a bowl of MJBs............no, I need a drink!

............there's a bad moon on the rise...........
Yeah, g/f, a night of howlin' is in order. Rum and vodka mixed with moonbeams! Garnished with MJBs! And some deep thoughts about how Archie and Betty contexualized the GAK Jughead and Veronica were hiding from Big Moose before THAT particular pre-primate discovered post modern art and pre-revolutionay tye-dying. Let the howling begin!

You could always borrow Pond Scum's name (my 23 yr old cat).   He won't mind.  He never uses technology, his paws are too hairy.

JS Geare -  Yes, make it a pinot grigio!!!

barfer - For the amount of times I ended up over the toilet, I should have your name!  Your profile and your name don't really fit, but that is what makes it so interesting!!  I LOVE IT!!!

You want some cheese with that whine? Please -its beneath you. Your name is just fine and attains a position of highest honor because it does not have a 3 digit number after it which would be the case if there were 99 or more other sq's here. You are the only one -and that's just fine. Now, run along and go find me a REAL problem.

I'll meet you later for a night of howlin' at the moon.  Then we can have an in-depth conversation about how to contextualize jb's - I prefer rum to vodka.   Archie actually said GAK! and ARG! and even GRRRR!!!! to almost everybody except Big Moose who would not have been too happy with ol' Arch.

As you can tell, I read extensively, especially that post-industrial stuff - comic books lol

And if the NEXT thing you tell me is that you live near Charlottesville VA, that probably means a personal visit because that's where I live. All about Dave Matthews here!

And 7 -also interesting. Try this: set up a multiplication table for 7: 1 X 7, 2 X 7, 3 X 7...out to 20 X 7 (or any larger number times 7).

Then, add together the digits that make up the answer you get, until you have a single digit. Example: 2 times 7 is 14. Add the 1 and 4 and get 5. Or 20 times 7 = 140. Add the 1, the 4 and the zero to get 5. Do it for all multiplications, down the column. Observe the realtionship between the final answers. What do you see?

And Carter? Bad house fire the other night. Total loss.

Now then, Nana902: I can't tell you how much I appreciate the nice things you said about GS Geare -and I can only hope you meant JSGeare. If I meet up with GS, he and I will have a little chat.

As to a swimming hole of Wodka for the MJB's....they become MRB's.... rolling beans.

Just saw your post back to me....missed  it somehow.....I'm glad that your hubby is alive and well!!
And, I'm not a guy - although you'd think I was, picking a name like mine...as kids we used to call each other "weenies', etc.
I like adding "er" after names as I call my son his proper name (which I won't include) with an "er" on the end of it.

Who is this singer - rock? Didn't recognize the name...

My name is pretty easy to understand I think.  We have 5 grandchildren who call me "Nana" and our last name is Schnure!  Hence.....nanaschnure.  This has been a great question and a great topic and a great place to come when we need support.  Thanks to all of you but especially GS...he has been especially supportive.  I am getting better and better.  Hope all of you the same.  Nana

Archie DID say GAK to Veronica all the time! Or maybe he said it to Jughead...........
And one CAN contextualize jb's simply by soaking them in vodka overnight. It's best if you stay up and drink with them, tho. Frightened little beans, are they. They must be post-industrial beans.
And lonewolf.............there's a full moon with our names written ALL OVER IT!

I thought GAK!!!! came from an Archie comic book.  Didn't realize it was advanced profanity so I won't say GAK!!!! any more, will stick to ARG! or UGH!

Can't contextualize jb's.  Oh no.   I think I'm going to say GAK! again.  And  a pre-industrial analysis; interesting, although pre-primate might be equally valid LOL
