Yes I take 10 mg twice a day due to anxiety, I had to have 2 out of 3 sections of my right lung removed because of lung cancer, my doctor had me take this to calm me down I developed a high dose of panic while waiting to have open heart surgery on top of the cancer operation, since taking drug I struggle for breath every day

Given that this drug has a very poor track record of working I'd say that if it makes it hard to breathe you might be looking for alternatives.

Hi plata, I've been on buspar for about a week now and am experiencing the need to yawn, but my anxiety is non existent. How's it going for you?

You've replied on a very old thread, we want you to get input and the support you need, so I urge you to start a new thread so that people who are still on MH posting can address your concerns and support you through the rough times.

Thanks!

Thank you I feel so much better reading your post! I just upped mine to half a bar in the morning and half in the afternoon. They are 15mg tablets. I always feel so tired and short of breath. When I get up to do something I feel like it's hard to breath and my heart is pounding like I worked out. Not fast beating just hard. But after a while I'm ok. It's always right at the beginning of when I take my med. I thought maybe I was crazy but that makes me feel better! I started it last Friday so this Friday will be week one. So I hope by the end of week 2 I'm better!

Hi Jeb! Welcome to our little "nut-house!" I'm very glad you found us and I think we can give you some answers. I just want to make sure you understand that we are NOT doctors on THIS side of the forum, but if you wish to speak with one, they are available.
That said.............
You have been on BuSpar (busPIRone) for just over a week, so you are still in the early stages of getting "stabalized" on this med. BuSpar is an antianxiety/sedative, which I'm sure you're well aware of. You are on the lightest dose and did not say if your doc plans to increase that.........which really has no bearing on your question, it's more my curiosity at play.
Some of the side effects of BuSpar could very well be what is causing you to feel like you can't take a good deep breath. BuSpar can/will affect your respiratory system by causing hyperventilation, which basically means you are taking very shallow but rapid breaths. After a time, this can make you feel like your just not getting enough air. You need to do a little concentrating on taking good deep breaths, but bear in mind I don't mean you should start huffing and puffing like one of those little pigs. Just take a nice good breath when you think about it and then............STOP thinking about it. Overthinking will only get you to breathing weird again!
BuSpar can also cause some chest congestion, so that may be contributing to the feeling of not filling your lungs. I wouldn't worry about this unless it gets worse, but I think it will soon begin to disappear on its own as your body grows use to the med. BuSpar can also cause shortness of breath! In my humble, non-medical opinion, I think you are having a bit of a go-round with ALL of these side effects. BuSpar can take up to two weeks to reach therapeutic levels in your blood stream and it should be around that time that your body should adjust to these side effects. I would say that as long as you do not feel that you are in any sort of real "respiratory DISTRESS," then just try to relax and not concentrate so much on your breathing. Try to get your mind onto something else and it would be my guess that you soon stop thinking about your breathing.
If you are uncomfortable with this advice, please give your doctors office a call or your local chemist and speak with them regarding your symptoms.........I feel fairly confident they will tell you the same thing, but it's far better to err on the side of caution. I think you're fine and just going through the "normal" anxiety most of us deal with when we start a new med.
Please feel free to write back as much as you need or want to. There a ton of folks here who are or have taken BuSpar and they can give you some real first hand advice.
Keep us posted, OK?
Good luck
Peace
