i've got a call from a place called willcare and ive been trying to get a doctor to treat me for my panic attacks and agoraphobia. i ask on the phone to the person that i'm on only one med which is xanax and wanted to know if i can get it refilled and they said idk might have to see a doctor in person, but i suffer from agoraphobia and it hard to get around to place to get the right help and what gets me is that its a doctor and i know i'm not the only person in the world going through this but how does a person with agoraphobia expect to get help if that person can't even make it to the doctors office or a hospital, so i was stressing over it cause i want to get better and that medication helps me function. i'm not addicted to the med its just the only thing that helps me but other people hear it as if the person is really addicted to the med. i only take this med once a day as needed for panic attacks but what i do it some times break the pill in half and take one in the morning and one at night. if anyone here can relate to this doctor coming to the house please a comment.
You bring up a VERY good topic, and one that always frustrated the CRAP out of me when my panic disorder was causing me to almost be housebound secondary to the agoraphobia. You're absolutely right, the crux of the problem for some of us with anxiety is the almost inability to leave our "safe place"...yet we have to do that in order to seek help. It makes it nearly impossible.
If you found a doc to come to your home, at least initially, that's awesome, take full advantage of it. Even with a few visits, if the doctor can prescribe an anti-anxiety medication for you, that may be what you need to get over the hump to be able to more comfortably leave the house. I know early on, I couldn't have left my house without taking my Ativan first...no way! I tried and it was just about impossible. I'd get myself SO worked into a frenzy it was insane.
Definitely keep us posted about this new doctor of yours. It would be amazing if there was also a therapist who could start out with home visits. Some therapists who are very well versed in CBT will do that....they will work with the patient IN the environment that's necessary.....like in exposure type therapy. That's priceless for an agoraphobic. To be able to have a therapist be present in the moment while you work through those anxieties about leaving home would be priceless.
