I agree, you didn't allow it to throw you into a panic and that's great! Trust in your doctor and keep exercising, this helps so much with anxiety.
I am sorry that you had a palpation. But the good thing is your didnt panic. It just scared you. Did you continue to lift and exercise? If so Good for you!!!!! If not, that is ok. Good for you for getting back to the gym, that is a great first step. I think if you can really think about the fact the cardiologist told you that you are very healthy when feeling them maybe you can just train your brain to not get anxious. I think you are making huge strides in the last week and hope that you stick with it. Remember as scary as they feel it will not hurt you.
Hey Mike.............they scare most of us, so you're certainly not alone there. Even tho the docs tell us they're normal, won't hurt us and just ignore them.......personally I don't care what they say. When my heart starts to flopping, I start freaking. Even tho, as I said, I've had these since I was 13, when they hit, I get scared thinking "maybe it won't stop THIS time!" Sometimes the episode lasts much longer than usual and then I end up also having a panic attack.............talk about your vicious cycle.
Wouldn't you think that after 47 YEARS they wouldn't scare me anymore? Unfortunately I think it's in the nature of us folks with anxiety/panic that we may totally understand what is happening, yet it can still scare us.
These are poweful disorders and NOT for the faint of heart! LOL
We all learn to deal with them and our fear in our own way and in our own time. You'll figure it out eventually, Mike. I hope you do talk to the folks on the Heart Rhythm Forum. They really helped me a lot when the frequency of my palps changed.
Peace

i had heart palpitations before but its just scares me sometimes and i have googled heart palpitations before but that was before i saw my doctor
I take it that you've never experienced a heart palpitation before this one, and can therefore understand why this one would frighten you. They ARE scary until we learn that they are totally normal and completely harmless. You had ONE that lasted for a "second." There are folks out there who have literally hundreds a day, every day. They are all healthy and live normal lives.
You saw a cardiologist who told you that your heart was fine. I know how difficult it can be to accept that what we perceived as a very frightening experince can just be ignored. It doesn't seem right, does it? But if the cardiologist had had any doubts, he would have ordered a great many tests.
It's my guess this doctor didn't do a good enough job in explaining heart palpitations to you so that you would be completely reassured. The ideal solution would be to see this doctor again and have all your questions and concerns addressed.
Please don't Google "heart palps" or you'll be signing up for a heart transplant. LOL
I suggest you visit our Heart Rhythm Forum and talk with the people over there. They can explain it all to you and I promise you'll feel much better after talking with them.
Virtually all of us on this forum have heart palps so don't be surprised if you get a great many replies.
I've had heart palps since I was 13 and I'm 60 now. I'm still here. I've gotten use to my heart flopping around like a fish out of water.
Keep in mind, too, that some people only experience ONE heart palp in their entire lives. Maybe this was yours!
You'll be fine.
Peace
