panick

i have anxity and panic attacks. the doctor put me on alprazololam , 1 tablet daily as needed. i havnt been taking ,but i am worried about taking and how long this will help me. he prescribed 25 mg. i get panic attacks at my job. i havnt had to take because i have only been working but a few hrs a week. next week he wants me to work alot of hrs and i am starting to stress.the dr told me i could start taking propranolol -10 mg 3 times daily instead. i dont know what to do. i dont know how  my body will react to a new prescription. i cant afford to take a chance to have a panic attack in front of other people. i dont know which one will work the best for the long hours i will be working.

Over 8 years, i lost count of the meds I tried for anxiety. The top four benzo, altering doses as needed. I also was a medication aide for people like me and had to administer anxiety meds as needed for others at a group home I worked at. Currently I am getting 90 valium a month, three a day as needed. Does it work?  Honestly, I don't think so, but I am sure it prevents escalating or has some unknown benefit. Valium is a long lasting benzo, Short stuff won't protect a job. Marijuana has yet to fail me.

Also known as Generalized Anxiety Disorder. Sorry about that.
I did look up Propranolol and it's a beta blocker to help keep your heart rate down. It is also used to treat anxiety.

General Anxiety Disorder. It's when you feel anxious all the time. Not just when you have a panic attack. I'm not familiar with Propranolol, but I'll do some research on it for you.

Alprazolam is generic for Xanax. It's fast acting but does'nt stay in your system for long.Maybe 4 to 6 hours. So, it's a great med to take if you have panic attacks every once in awhile. If you have anxiety all the time, GAD in other words, a longer acting med might be better for you.
