If 80 mgs doesn't help you, I'm not sure if it's helpful to you. But keep in mind, propranolol is a fairly short-acting beta blocker, at 80 mg you will likely have an effective dose similar to peak level when taking one 20 mg pill. Do not adjust the dose without asking your doctor! This is very important. Beta blockers can have very unwanted side effects if the dose is too high.
I used to take 10 mg when needed. Usually before exercise (as my heart rate got a little high during exercise when I was nervous, and I got palpitations) or when being stressed because it had a great effect preventing panic. My panic attacks stopped completely when taking propranolol, and I never had a racing heart.
So, propranolol has often great effect on the fight/flight response. What it doesn't work against (at least not in my case), is that nagging, uncertainty-like kind of anxiety. The one causing cold hands and feet, sweating, and so on. I think an SSRI is better to take care of that.
Thanks mammo for your reply, I've to go back to doc in a months time, so I'll speak to him then if its still not having a great effect. It's certainly making me feeling a bit dizzy and light headed. No your right it would be silly to up the dose without doc advise, thank you
Give the medication more time, it's already showing some results. Don't ever play around with the dosage it's very dangerous. If after a week you don't see any change than ask your doctor what to do, he knows best. I hope it helps with the blushing and take care.
