Let us understand -- did you take the recommended dose, or take more?  I'm dosed twice a day for my ADs, so that's normal, but you don't say whether you decided to take more on your own -- and if you dose twice a day, it's usually morning and evening, not so close together in time.  By the way, if this is for anxiety, and it's your first med, I agree with the above post -- this is one of the hardest to stop taking.  Don't know your history -- have you tried ssris?  They're not as stimulating.

Hi Michelle,
I've been on Effexor for about 15 yrs. Most I've ever taken is 75mgs though. I always take it at night and I've nevet had a problem. Why did you split the dose? Mine are time rrlease capsules and I take one once a day.  It's a hard drug to get off though... if you just started it, I would suggest you ask your doctor for something easier to ween off of.
