weird feeling in head.......

Hi! I'm an 18 yr. old girl and almost a year ago I was just hit out of nowhere with this strange dream like out of body feeling. I just came across this question http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Mental-Health---International/Out-of-body-feelings-and-lightheadedness-that-NEVER-GOES-AWAY/show/268655 which is pretty much what the head thing feels like....almost like a force trying to pull me out kinda thing as weird as that sounds! For a while after that i felt sick all the time and that parts gone away I will just now get that head thing every once in a while. It used to cause me to panic but now i'm just working on ignoring it. I went to someone for panic, but that didn't help much and when I described that feeling he didn't understand what I was talking about and said it wasn't anxiety related. I've had tests done and everythings normal. I don't want to say that I've given up on ever finding out what this is or how to fix it, but honestly,I've had so many doctor visits and questions posted that I almost am. I'm trying to deal with it as a part of life and it's just gonna happen. i've gotten to where when it comes I can lessen it quickly. noise seems to aggravate it also. So anyways Sorry this is so long but there it is! It's a lot better than when it started but the sudden sensation that this is all a dream or that I'm being pulled out of my body or that I'm going to pass out does take a toll and make you dread doing or going places in case it happens but i'm not going to get like that! I can also feel tingly and shaky in my legs sometimes when it happens and feel cold, but all that bothers me is that spacey feeling. Thanks so much to anyone who bothers to read or answer. I'm not really expecting an answer as to what this is,but just someone saying I know how you feel and maybe tips in how to deal with it! Thanks!!!

The word for what you describe, your experience of feeling like you are being pulled out of your body and feeling detached is called depersonalization. Depersonalization is caused by anxiety, and anxiety is what it sounds like you have. Especially when you mention that you get tingling and shaky sensation in your legs.. this is classic anxiety, I know all this from many years of personal experience and learning about it all! I experience both your experiences and have fully gotten better before, and go in and out of it these days.. but just the fact we feel we can get better tells us that we can get better. It sounds very much like you have anxiety, cos this is what I have delt with sinse I was not much older then you, now I'm 28. You must understand that anxiety can seem to come from no-where! It can be be mysterious like that. Sometimes we can link our anxiety, which by the way causes endless possible physical symptoms, we can link it to specific recent difficulties. But other times it is very hard for us to fathom that our debilitating and concerning symptoms and experiences of depersonalization or fear that we are losing control (all very common anxiety), but hard to fathom that all of these physical problems are caused by concerns we have about our life, and created by our constant worrying. We may not even realize we are worrying. But, take a look at your life so far, and if there are things you wish could be different, or experiences that were hard such as a loss of a loved one, or anything, then those subtle concerns are likely the cause of our anxiety.. and we may not even think they could be causeing such symptoms, as we may not feel/think we are worrying.. but we are! So do your best to resolve the concerns you have about your life.. which is very possible to do, and seek help and support until you figure out what is going on and until you get better. Anxiety is so common, and if you read on here you will see that many, many people your age, younger and alder share your same experiences. Anxiety is so common, we just don't know that cos everyone hides it. So, see more psychologists!!!! One isn't enough, he sounds incompetent!! And doctors really won't tell you about your anxiety, they do not consider dealing with psychological problems. They may, however suggest you see a psycologist, have they? So keep seeing psychologists and even alternative therapists as there are some insightful people out there who could help you!! Your condition dosent sound that bad to me. Like I say, I have felt the same way and even worse then you describe and I know It can get better, as I have healled completely again and again througout my 20's, and now I have been having a difficult time for a while since coming home from a world travel (its a lot to explain), but I feel better lately, and I'm workin on it :)  Hey, so take care of yourself! and continue seeking help, and you can get better :)  Have a good night, or day whenever it is you recieve this :)   Ash

I have been dealing with anxiety since I was 15 and am now 31.  I know exactly what you are talking about and I don't know who told you that the disconnected dreamlike feeling isn't anxiety cause it is!  I hate it and normally have it in episodes of about a couple weeks maybe once a year.  I tried everything to help with my anxiety and ended up giving up which has only made it more intense as I got older.  Don't give up now!  If all of your tests are clear then just work on helping yourself out of anxiety, maybe counseling?  And when this happens and you are out I know you want to leave as quick as you can, as I do.  But I have realized by concentrating on my breathing, telling myself nothing is going to happen to me that I am a healthy girl it has made me stronger and able to stay wherever i am sometimes.  Good Luck and Best wishes!! You are going to be fine!!!!!!;)
