great thanks :) I've been looking but there's just so many posts :P
Out of curiosity, where did you see 10g suggested? I've never seen anything that high.
Sorry if I should already know this (my memory is shot) ... are you on fludrocortisone?
I'll have to look and find where I saw 10g suggestion; I thought it was a crazy amount and wondered if it would do dmg to your system to have THAT much.
Right now, I'm taking Midodrine, Bisopropol & Lexapro
I found one of the sites - it's under OI - Lifestyle advice on wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orthostatic_hypotension
"A suggested value is 10 g per day" but it does caution that overuse can lead to high BP
There's alot of references & external links at the bottom where they got their info from; how reliable that information is, who knows :)
I checked out the wikipedia page; it looks like the section where the 10 g is has been flagged for improper citations for quite some time:
"This section does not cite any references or sources. Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources. Unsourced material may be challenged and removed. (October 2007)"
Because wikipedia is written and edited collectively by the public, tags such as that are used in the editing process to flag content that needs to be improved. It's a good idea to view with skepticism anything on wikipedia that is tagged for lack of citations. If you ever want to look for more details on what in particular is being criticized in a particular article, click on the tab at the very top of the page that says "discussion." Here is the discussion page for that article, for example:

I'd say 10 g is probably too high, though without a noted citation I don't know where they got that number from. Cleveland Clinic's syncope clinic has a handout entitled "5G" or something like that (can't find my copy at the moment), and that 5000 mg range seems to be the most common recommendation I've heard, which is about in keeping with the 6000 mg your doc recommended. This reminds me I need to find time to work more on the salt health page.
That's what I thought too, I said WOW and told my husband - I can't believe recommend 10g of sodium that's almost double the level my dr said, especially since I'm having such a hard time with just 6g a day. [whew]
