If a woman has irregular cycles and takes birth control, when does it start to work?

Hello:

if a woman has irregular cycles (like gets her period every 2 or 3 months at different times), and she just started taking birth control, when will the birth control work correctly so she cannot get pregnant.

Thanks, I wanted to know if it worked that day or what?

you say at least a month. Should we wait even more like two months?

I thought that by the time the 3rd week came she should be on the placebo  round week and she should be getting her period. Then after the period comes (if period lasts a week), isnt it safe after that

meaning one month?

doesnt birth control start a new cycle? She is irregular, so when she starts she doesnt know when her next period should have begun so arent we making a new cycle?

You'll want to use protection for the first month at least.  After that, it's up to you, but it is risky if you aren't good at remembering things or taking them at the same time daily.  I set my cell phone alarm to avoid this.
